Gables Park Tower

The location of this apartment cannot be beat. It’s directly across from the lake so access to the trails is super close and you can easily take your dog for walks or to Auditorium Shores to play at the dog park. You can walk to downtown restaurants and events, and there are multiple buses you can take to school (or bike) making the commute only about 20-30 minutes.

Not Cheap but Worth it!

I've loved living in my building for both years of business school. While not cheap, you really get what you pay for with this building. The apartments are very large with big bathrooms and tons of closet space. The amenities at the building really set it apart - it has a great gym, beautiful pool, grills, lounge with free Starbucks coffee, movie theatre, and study/working space. The location is great for access to Lady Bird Lake, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and West 6th/downtown in general.

Can't Beat it here!

Love Gables Park Tower. Fantastic amenities, location in downtown Austin with ability to walk to many places. Only downside is freight train that frequently runs by and makes loud squaeking.

Wonderful 'boutique' style building

Really enjoyed the time I spent living at GPT. The building feels more like you are in a boutique hotel than an apartment building. They have art from local artists in the halls on each floor. The units have a fabulous finish out. The amenities area is crazy (game room, wine tasting room, prep kitchen, outdoor kitchen, pool, amazing gym). One of the best buildings to live in downtown.

Wonderful new building

The building and amenities are fantastic; the maintenance crew is responsive and everything gets done the next business day. The building is dog friendly and fairly social, with a number of events hosted by the building management. Location is great with grocery stores within a walking distance and the hike and bike trail right across the street.

Great Amenities and Staff

I've lived in the Gables for awhile now and can honestly say that this is definitely a welcoming environment. Outdoor swimming pool, skee ball game room and wifi hotspots give this a great community feel. Location is convenient and all of the front desk staff are helpful and friendly and greet you by name. Overall, I would recommend to others.

Downtown Austin Reviews

If you don't want to be downtown, there is really no reason to pay the premium to be here and if you really do want to be downtown and don't want to pay up, look at the 404 Rio Grande. If you have a roommate though and don't mind paying a bit more(~1500-1600 per person) and want an upscale experience, the Bowie is great. I don't know about the "neighborhood", but being downtown has been much more enjoyable than I had expected
Downtown is a great landing spot if you are moving from a large city. I moved from DC and found the downtown Austin scene to be immediately familiar.

I would recommend it if you have no ties to Austin and don't really have an idea or preference on where to live.
Awesome location! I love being downtown because that's where a lot of the good restaurants and bars are. I walk or scooter to a lot of places and don't have to worry about taking an uber or finding parking.
Can run into a few homeless people but on the whole it's a great area. Easy to walk to everything in the downtown area.
Rainey is a TON of fun on the weekends. The bar scene is great and it's a very young crowd looking to have fun. Keep in mind you're living in a "party" neighborhood, which can be both good and bad. The real downside is the lack of food options. It's only a 20 minute walk to work and is right next to Lady Bird Lake and the Ann Butler walking trail. I also feel pretty safe there.
This is a great neighborhood. It's not as hectic as it may sound. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby. We have Trader Joe's and Whole Foods within a short walk (Trader Joe's is 42 seconds away). There are so many bus routes that it's easy to get anywhere (including school). It's a little pricey, of course, being downtown, but I thought it was worth it.

The river, with the running/walking trail, and kayak rental spots is super closeby.
No nearby major stores or anything close within walking distance besides a few restaurants and bars. As I said before, some people may like living on Rainey, I don't think its necessarily a great place to live, maybe just a great place to go out occasionally. One perk -- close highway access on IH-35
Best neighborhood. Have I mentioned the Trader Joe's?
