Dirty

This apartment has an amazing location but was poorly built. I constantly have bugs collecting around my doors and windows, the workout room has flooded several times, the mail room system is a trainwreck, and the pool was out of commission for a week in the summer.

Great Location

The North Foundry building is conveniently located across the street from the Notre Dame campus (a 5-10 minute walk), and has direct access to a large parking garage. What's more, Eddy Street is a well developed business hub with plenty of restaurants and grocery stores.

Inside the apartment, the brick walls block out most external sounds. The units have large windows and high ceilings, which I particularly liked. There are also washer/dryer units in each apartment. The appliances were all in great shape and mostly up-to-date, and the ceiling lights light up all rooms except for the bedroom, which did not have any ceiling fixtures.

The building is restricted to outsiders via key access, and the hallways have security cameras. I felt very safe in the building, and especially in my apartment.

Overall, I would say that the Foundry adequately met my needs as a graduate student. The central location really makes the relatively high price worth it.

Foundry Review

Likely the nicest near campus, but somewhat of a headache getting everything sorted before moving in and getting settled in. Probably because of the number of units for management to handle. Afterward, everything has been superb.

Best Location

Live in the South Buildings. Slightly more expensive but newer and seem to be better maintained. Location is the best for access to Mendoza & Eddy Street

Overpriced and cheap

Do not go to the foundry - maintenance response time is 1+ week on average, rent is overpriced and their selling point is their location, they pitch valet trash as a benefit but you pay $360/yr for it, parking is $1k+/year, living in foundry north doesn't give you access to anything in foundry south (aka no gym), and undergraduates are very loud and trash the apartment, the walls also have a consistent smell of smoke/urine, appliances are also very inefficient and the walls are thin so your utility bills will be astronomical ($300+/month) in the winter

The Foundry

Although the application process can be onerous, living in The Foundry is super comfortable and convenient. The amenities are something to highlight. My apartment is spacious and full of natural light. Haven't had any problem since I moved in.

Location is great. Price and management's organization is not so great.

You cannot beat the location. But expect to pay a few hundred over the advertised price. They will say they have a sophisticated pricing system, but they don't. Expect very slow communication from the office - if you even get a response. Your best chance to speak to someone is to walk into the office and put them on the spot, or call Buckingham Management (out of Indianapolis) and have them use their power to get you the answers you need. With all due respect to the Foundry employees, they are really young. If I had to guess the professional work experience for them prior to working in the office I'd say it is 0-3 years. The answers they provide you when you have an issue or question about pricing will frustrate anyone who has rented or owned a home before. As a graduate student I found this very annoying. So, in short, it is very expensive. You will not get much from the management. It will be loud, even if you're in Foundry South - they have grad students that are right out of undergrad and still in their party stage. But, you cannot beat the location and the 7 minute walk to the stadium.
