Overall Negative Experience

Calamigos exploits the students that live there. They get you with cheap rent for the area, but then you are expected to put up with so much. Frequently, the manager makes excuses such as "you live in the wilderness" when you live on a million dollar ranch in Kanan Dume Canyon. Apparently this makes it fine to live with a mouse infestation for 8 months and have leaks in your roof (I quote, "Well, it only leaks when it rains."). Apparently they took care of the mouse problem after I left, but in the time since the start of the infestation and my departure, my housemates and I had to text the manager whenever we found a dead rodent in a trap (which was frequently), and at the start of the school year (right before I left) we were taught how the new electric traps worked and were told that outside of maintenance's work hours, we would be expected to dispose of the dead rodents. Additionally, Calamigos does not require past residents to turn in their keys, so you have no idea who may have a key to your room or house. My upstairs housemates lived without hot water in their bathrooms for over a year. The student resident advisers do their best, but the property does not seem to invest enough money to actually resolve the issues and relies too heavily on the cheap labor of the resident advisors to handle issues that the property manager should really handle. The property manager does not live on the property full time and is frequently out of state. Maintenance is not available for emergencies outside of work hours. There is no employee (aside from the student resident advisers, who have no real authority to do anything aside from call the property manager) that lives on property or is available outside of work hours. If you want cheap rent and the cheap rent living experience, Calamigos is for you. You trade basic living expectations for a lower price point and good hotel amenities (which we were told increasingly that we could not use, despite our leases).

Resort Living & Great Community at Calamigos

I live in a house with other guys at Calamigos Living and I really enjoy it! Calamigos Living is next to the deluxe Calamigos Resort and wedding venues, and student residents have access to some of the facilities on the resort. I enjoy the guys I live with and the RAs put on fun events for the students on a weekly basis. I can highly recommend it! The drive takes about 18 minutes to get to/from campus.

Calamigos

Pepperdine students have been living at Calamigos for many years. The management is really responsive, there are even student staffs hired to create social events on the property, it's very safe, and the next door property is accessible to Calamigos residents.
