Good not great

The Berkshire is the perfect location for AU students and the price is competitive given the included amenities.
But, it’s an older building and the management is unpredictable.

Review

The apartment is nice. It is modernized in some areas. It is definitely in need of maintenance in other areas. The building management turned on the heat back in October when it still regularly got up to the 70s and 80s so that was not appreciated.

Worth the money.

So far so good. The gym and laundry facilities are convenient. There is also a small grocery and deli shop.

Mixed

On one hand, the location is great. On the other, we have a recurrent rodent problem and neighbors can be noisy. Management is not effective.

It pays the bills

Well, it turned out to be one of the cheaper options (!) in the area and it’s proximity to campus is unparalleled. The occasional bug in the kitchen is off putting but manageable. The leasing staff were extremely helpful!

Solid choice for AU students

The Berkshire does everything an AU student might need - and is in an unbeatable location.
However, we've struggled with an often sloppy and unresponsive management team.

Perfectly average

The Berkshire is close to AU and is one of the most affordable options in the area. The location is very convenient, being walkable from campus, metro, a supermarket, and having a bus route right by the complex (even if it only runs every half hour).

The amenities aren't anything special, but access to a small gym and a (though overpriced) convenience store that's good for emergencies is nice.

As the complex is mostly populated by AU undergrad students, it can get loud on Friday and Saturday nights especially, though management tries to respond to complaints.

The pest problem is impossible to get rid of due to the building's garbage system, but I have found that keeping a clean kitchen and managing personal garbage well keeps roaches a fairly rare sight.

Overall the Berkshire is not an incredibly stunning living space in any way, but the location and manageable price for the area make it a satisfying option for anyone who cares more about price and efficiency than luxury.

Because I've only been here during the pandemic I can't talk on the neighborhood too much, but everything is very walkable and has great restaurants and such.
Good, convince store in bottom of building next to wagshals, and other places, really nice running trails.
Super quiet super safe. Not alot going on, it's kind of a trek to Cleveland or Glover park. Great place to live if you want to be by campus and live in the city but be a little bit out of the chaos of the city.
The neighborhood here is beautiful with lots of trees, places to walk, and access to the Georgetown waterfront. There are a lot of families that live here and elderly people so it's a little farther from some of the night life in D.C. but if you are willing to split a ride with friends or hop on the bus it is very doable.

A note: although the neighborhood is pet friendly, the building does not allow pets.

Overall, it's beautiful here and a nice escape from the craziness of law school life.
Close to campus and a safe neighborhood. Only complaint is lack of a grocery store, and being further from Tenleytown.
Cathedral Heights is a great neighborhood. It is close to a variety of bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and other useful resources. It is serviced by a variety of bus lines, but not any metro stops.
It’s quiet and made up of mostly retirees and young families. There are some restaurants (including 2Amys!) and the Giant is close and great.
My neighborhood is okay but I would like to be closer to more restaurants and stores because as of right now, I am not able to walk outside of my apartment and be right at it a shopping area or anything.
