Decent apartment with modern amenities, but try looking elsewhere. Doormen are COMPLETELY incompetent.

Location is both a pro and con - love how it is close to school (20 minute walk to Huntsman), but that walk from 19th to 23rd street can be very sketchy late at night. The worst part of the building is by far the management. They started construction literally right after I moved in (thanks for telling us before I signed the lease, guys), and it's going on for at least one year. Front door staff is COMPLETELY incompetent, very lazy, always falling asleep, and to call them "security" is completely laughable. I would probably explore other options close to campus, like the new building on 22nd/23rd & Chestnut if you want a modern building. Pretty fed up with Riverloft. They also have a wacky pricing scheme that is based on a "proprietary pricing model" (yeah, OK) which basically means that your neighbor might be paying hundreds of dollars less than you for the exact same apt, same floor, facing same street, with no obvious difference to your apt.

Excellent building, but on the expensive side.

The apartments here are expensive but the location is good and the units are spacious. You are a 15 to 20 minute walk from campus and within easy walking distance of most of center city. The staff is generally pleasant and helpful. There are a lot of Wharton and other graduate students who live in this building so you will probably know a decent number of people in the building. The only negative about this location is the price. There are cheaper options if you are willing to look at brownstones and places with less amenities.

Really nice building

Great for walking to class and right across from Sweat Fitness. Lots of square footage with a modern feel and its close to the Schuykill river, which has a great running path. One downside is that its not close to many restaurants.

Nice apartments, but a little expensive

Apartments are nice and relatively big, 24 hour doorman. However, the building itself is old which results in poor heating system, old kitchen and bathrooms. It is overpriced.

Good location but expensive

The building is in a great location but is expensive compared to other buildings nearby. The staff is very responsive to issues and is generally very friendly. Our main knock on the building is that the fire alarm has gone off ~5 times since we have lived there.

The Riverloft is spacious and convenient

Highest ceiling in Philly, very spacious, next door to rite-aid (24 hour), closest to school at CC. 10 minute to rittenhouse, not much within 5 minute walk.

Reasonable apartment, but lots of added one-time fees

Nice & safe building but avoid the side facing either Walnut or 23rd street as it is noisy from traffic, bus stop, Rosie's Bar. Also know that they will charge for move out costs ($300 for cleaning and carpets as well as extra - i was quoted $200 for general upkeep of the apartment) I moved in in September and got a discount on the rent. If you sign a 22 month contract that locks in the rate for the duration of the tenancy. If you intern over the summer and want to sublet you can - if you notify them they will make you amend the lease ($150) or you can do it behind their back.

Nice building, but fairly expensive

Lots of things to like (location, good building management, good amenities like gym), but pricier than most housing options avilable in Center City.

The Riverloft is clean, well-managed and spacious. In spite of paying a premium, I still can recommend this place!

Overpriced, look elsewhere

Overpriced for what you get. Better value throughout Center City. I have had issues with mice and the administrative staff. There is constantly large amounts of chunky dust (i.e. ceiling plaster) falling into my kitchen and any food left out (hence the great pizza disaster of 2012). They market this place as a luxury apartment complex when in reality it still seems like an old factory converted into decent apartments. While an overall ok experience, I expected better for my money.

Fitler Square Reviews

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
