Convenient, Spacious Apartment w/ Great Amenities

The Left Bank is great for students, especially 1Ls, because it is a quick walk from the law school. It also provides a lot of amenities that I use a lot (study rooms, gym, rooftop patio). If maintenance issues ever come up they have always been fixed within 24 hours and the staff and management are very nice and accommodating. Note, if you are looking at the building I would make sure you do not sign an apartment on the side that borders the train track (it is very loud) but as long as you ask and are on any of the 3 other sides (or any internal unit with a courtyard view) it is a great place to be!

Good Experience

Generally like living here! Close to school and nice apartments. But be careful about an apartment facing outward- the train is very loud on both sides.

Best place to stay

I have moved three times from the school's dormitory to a house and finally LB. It is definitely my favorite one. Spacious, high ceiling, clean, friendly and helpful staff. Not crazily expensive, it can save you a lot of time of worrying about how you live!

Too much money for the headache

The apartment has a great layout, so one could easily be swayed. However, I have experienced many problems that no one would know about until well into their lease. For instance, there are several maintenance issues (e.g. leaking floors, poor A/C in the summer, cheap windows allowing for cold air to come in even when shut in the winter, bad draining systems for water in the bathtub and sink). Additionally, the walls are paper thin, which means that you can easily hear noises of all types coming from neighbors (e.g. TV, loud discussions, showers). Lastly, the management staff is ineffective and often do not even respond to inquiries.

Perfect location for law students

In between the law school and Center City - the main two places you will be going for studying/socializing.

Great student apartment

Overall, the Left Bank is a great apartment for law students. It is two blocks away from the law school (about 10 minutes away), has a gym, a study area downstairs, and two conference rooms that can be reserved for study groups! Management is also very responsive. I was really worried about pests when moving to Philly and have not seen any in this building.

There are a few downsides. The Left Bank is a bit on the expensive side - $1800-$2000 for a one-bedroom and $200 for parking every month. Also, there are train tracks on both sides of the building (the tracks on the east are not that bad but the tracks on the west have trains going by about every 10 minutes). However, the apartments facing the courtyard do not have any noise problems.

The Left Bank: Depends where your room is

The Left Bank is a good apartment - it's near school, there's a gym with new equipment, doorman, and lots of other amenities. The rooms are spacious and the kitchens are well functioning. Everything is pretty nice. HOWEVER, note that if you are getting an apartment on the west side of the building (the one facing university city) there are train tracks that run every 5-10 minutes and they create thunderous noise throughout your apartment. It was pretty miserable so I switched to an inward facing courtyard apartment. Watch out for the train tracks!

University City Reviews

University City feels very safe with so many students living in the area as well as the added presence of University security. There are plenty of restaurants and easy access to basic necessities (e.g. grocery store, pharmacy). I really like it because it makes getting to work super convenient and street parking is much more available for visitors (or if you're like me and occasionally borrow your parents' car) compared to other areas of the city. It is also very close to the Schuylkill River Trail for walking/running/biking, is a quick walk into Center City, and gives you easy access to a variety of public transportation as well as major highways.
I love living in this neighborhood! There are a few parks nearby, and there's all kinds of great food places. I definitely try to be cautious and aware of my surroundings, but overall I feel very safe where I live. I love that I can easily walk to school and that the SEPTA trolley lines go right past my house- easy to get to center city for internships, etc.

Lately it has gotten a little noisy at night on my street, but otherwise I have few complaints about the neighborhood.
Living along Baltimore Ave is great - tons of small shops, restaurants, and bars. It's also really easy to get to school or center city on the trolleys. Neighborhood has all the city amenities but is way cheaper and quieter than center city.
I am in UCity, right across the street from the law school. It's quiet but it is kind of far from rittenhouse and center city. There are only a few restaurants and bars around here, but its a short uber into the city.
University City is a bustling college town with plenty of bars, restaurants and nightlife. You don't need to go far to find whatever is you're looking for.
For Penn students, the location is perfect, less than a five minute walk to school. There are bars, food, etc though center city offers more options.
Very close to university and law school. Good fast food options. A bit far from downtown
Nice and clean, seemingly safe, not much to do in the area though
