Uncertainty at S9 w/ New Management

Station Nine (S9) is in a great area and many people live in the community, greatly raising its value. However, the complex amenities, management service, and apartment fixtures are not really worth the price. There will be new management soon, which plans to update many of the amenities and fixtures, but I don't know the timetable for that to happen, and in the meantime, I expect an increase in rent. There are several other complexes in the area that I would consider before choosing S9, but if you are single and enjoy loudly hanging out with friends, then it might be the perfect place for you.

You get what you pay for

Very good overall, best value in the area. Not nearly as nice or well furnished as Berkshire 9 or Berkshire Main.

Not great, not bad

The best perk of living at S9 is that you will share a complex with many of your classmates. My apartment itself has tons of light and high ceilings, but is a bit dated. If I didn't live here I would live at B9, but as a FY MBA student you can't go wrong at S9.

Overrated

The prices are overrated, however, this is where the majority of Fuquans live (S9/B9 area). If I had another chance, I would consider looking at the prices at Berkshire Main

Expensive for Durham, NC but nice facilities

The facilities are relatively nice and I have enjoyed my time at Station Nine, although I do think the rent is incredibly overpriced. The Clubhouse is a bit small so if you're trying to crank out some work or hang out with friends over coffee - Berkshire Ninth or the Berkshire Main apartment complexes are better suited.

Station Nine - The place for Duke MBAs

Love my experience with Station Nine. The staff is highly communicative and helpful, the rent is reasonable, and our apartment is delightful. I also love being so close to my fellow classmates and being able to walk to 2 grocery stores and countless places to eat. Would make the same decision given what I know now.

Great location, older building

Management is attentive and helpful. Great location - close to Harris Teeter, some restaurants (from casual like Happy and Hale to fancier like Juju), bus stop to Fuqua, and plenty of Fuqua students. Compared to other "Fuqua favorite" buildings, the S9 complex and apartments look to be on the older side re: construction and finishings, but it's not bad.

Good 1BR but Overpriced for Area

Station Nine is good, but I would say it's not worth the price in Durham. You could get a better deal at a nearby building.

Good location

The apartment is more or less good: great location, a lot of students. But the apartment itself is not as fancy as some apartments in this neighborhood and amenities are not so rich., sometimes it could be noisy here. However, the price is cheaper, so it is a good offer.

Getting around Old West Durham

Old West Durham Reviews

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
