Fuqua lives here

The main reason I live here is because other Fuquans live here which makes it very convenient to meet and schedule meetings.

Great Place to Stay in FY

S9 is where most of Fuqua students live. Slightly expensive but the value of living with your classmates is priceless especially when you are beginning you MBA journey.

S9

Good place to live - easy access to ninth street and many other students live nearby. Approx 25 min walk/5 min drive to school.

Great for graduate students

Although it doesn't have the best amenities, S9 is a great place to live while studying at Fuqua. Most of the students live here, so it's very easy to schedule meetings or social events in the building. It is also in a great neigborhood: you have everything you need at a walking distance, the Duke bus has a stop very close to it, and it's close to downtown. For people who don't want to spend too much money and want to be comfortable (in all aspects), S9 is a great place to live.

Station 9 - best place for Fuquans

While not the nicest apartment in Durham it is conveniently located between "downtown" Durham and Fuqua and across the street from Harris Teeter. Also, since at least 60% of FY students live in S9 the social aspects far outweigh the lackluster management and average amenities.

The Fuqua Frat

S9 is where the vast majority of Fuqua students live, which is nice from a social perspective - it's easy to pregame, meet people when you are new, etc. However, you also may feel like you are constantly in "the bubble" because of this. The apartments are large and relatively modern, and generally kept up well. The staff is very friendly and generally very responsive to maintenance requests. One thing to consider is especially on weekends it can be very noisy.

Explore other options

Station 9 is okay, but not great. It's a highly social crowd and conveniently located - but doesn't have much else going for it. There are better, newer options in the area. One big plus relative to some competitors is that they do not allow undergrads.

Like living in a club

If you are OK with extremely loud neighbors and feeling like you live in a dance club on weekends and even week nights, this is the place for you. Management is incapable or unwilling to deal with loud tenants.

Station 9 - Convenient

If there is one word I would use to describe Station 9- it would be "Convenience". There are carpools galore, the grocery store is right across the street, it is on the H5 Line that drops you off in front of Fuqua, plus- over half of your classmates are your neighbors making it extremely easy to get out and be social. The 2 bed-room I share is large and good for hosting groups. We happen to live in a back corner unit so we do not get a lot of noise and can enjoy more quiet evenings if that is what we want.

A fun grown-up dorm

I love that all of my friends are nearby and that I'm close to bars and restraints and harris teeter. It's not super fancy but the staff is very nice and professional. It's probably a little overpriced, but worth it if you count the social aspect.

Don't live near the pool unless you're cool with the noise.

Ninth Street Reviews

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
