Cortland

Cortland is a great community. The rent is a little steep, but the amenities are great. There is also ample parking and maintenance is excellent. They are also pet friendly. I rated it an 8 simply because of the rent price.

Cortland

I have really enjoyed living at Cortland. While it comes at a steep rent, (I took out extra loans to cover the cost) I think it is worth it. The noise level is minimal, the security is amazing (as a female living alone I feel safe), the gym and pool areas are great, and the are super pet friendly. Cortland also has a ton of parking, and their maintenance stays on top of things. Asides from the rent being high I have no complaints.

This is the place to live!

The only reason I did not give the full stars is due to the rent being a little pricey. However, maintenance and management staffs are awesome! The apartment is spacious and nicely insulated. They are super pet-friendly, and both my cat and rabbit seemed to enjoy the apartment. And the bedroom closet is HUGE!! In addition to a huge walk-in closet, the apartment has a coat closet (behind the main door), a towel closet (in the bathroom), a closet for the washer and dryer, and another closet for the water heater (which also has extra storage space). Plus, it takes me a maximum of twelve minutes to commute to the law school and that is during rush hour with construction.

Nice Apartments -- Not Great Neighbors

The apartments at Cortland Midtown East are beautiful, and the complex has great amenities. The two pools and multiple fitness centers are fantastic. Overall, we have been happy in our time living here, but we have had two main frustrations.

First, the complex really oversells how quiet the units are. It's not the worst it could possibly be, but just expect normal apartment noise. We can hear almost all of the footsteps above us, and we can sometimes hear our neighbors on the sides of us. Finally, the sound of a dog barking can carry pretty far, even through the air vents. We have lived in some really loud places before though, so Cortland is at least a step up from others.

Second, maybe it's just because the complex is so large, but there seem to be a lot of folks living here who don't respect the fact that they have neighbors. MANY people do not pick up after their pets (in and outside of the dog park), which is especially frustrating when you have your own dog. People also litter frequently, which is again frustrating when you have a dog, but also just unpleasant in general.

Even with the issues above, I would recommend this place, especially to someone who works or attends school downtown. It is about a 10 minute drive but is certainly cheaper.

Other good things:

-- There is an access point to the Crabtree Creek Trail a few minutes away from the apartments which is great to walk your dog or just to get out and stretch your legs.

-- The complex is about 5 minutes away from Costco, Wegmans, and a shopping center with stores like Staples and Ulta.

-- Within walking distance is a cool little beer and wine store call Pourworks where you purchase items to go or enjoy them there.

LOVE IT HERE

It is 6 minutes from the Law School, located right behind Wegmans and Trader Joes. It is a HUGE complex with a lot of young adults and students. I love living here and do not want to move.

GREAT APARTMENT BUT NOT PERFECT

My apartment is in a great area. You can walk to a nearby nail salon and gym. Pourworks is also walking distance away. Only two minutes away from Wegmans, Costco, Starbucks, and Trader Joe's! It takes less than 8 minutes to get to law school. Only ten minutes away from both Triangle mall and Crabtree. Walmart, Aldi, and Lidl are all nearby. The amenities are nice: movie theater, pool table, hang-out spot, and free coffee. However, the only downside is that sometimes it can be kind of loud because of the area. Depending on which side you are on you can hear the traffic or depending on your neighbors you can hear them if they are being obnoxiously loud. It is pretty much a gamble. You either get put in a decent spot or you don't. You either get respectful neighbors or you don't. The noise doesn't bother me enough to change the rating but it depends on the person. for example, my roommate finds it too loud that she doesn't want to release next year.
