Large units

Large apartments in a convenient location; not especially nice or well-maintained, but better than Island Drive apartments. Temperature control has been a huge issue for me.

nice, convenient place to live

The office and maintenance staff are great - very responsive. Comfortable sized apartment for a couple with a dog, using second bedroom as an office. The only thing I'd change is living in a basement apartment means poor views and the windows are high, but rent is relatively cheap for being so close to the hospital. Love being able to walk to school.

Med Center

Love how convenient it is to the medical school, the river, and classmates. Generally quiet - I do get some parking lot, helicopter, and train noise, but you're going to get that in all of the white coat area apartments. There is a small gym and study space.

Expensive, but worth the money

Medical center court inevitably is expensive to rent from--a one bedroom costing close to $1150-1200 after all utilities (internet, no cable). That being said, you get your money's worth from the convenient location (can walk into hospital within 10 minutes or less, bike in <5 min) and the management staff. The management of the property is second to none, and maintenance requests are often taken care of in the same day/next day. My apartment itself was nice, usually no problems finding parking near your building.

Quiet, convenient, well priced, great management

I've lived in island drive and medical center court and there is no comparison. You might save a little money each month living in island drive, but everything about medical center court is better. Management is more than competent, apartments are better maintained, water pressure and temperature are better. I wish I had lived in med center from the beginning.

Best rental in white coat

The management here is what makes such a huge difference. The property manager (Dorian) is amazing. She knows everyone by name and their apartment number. They are very responsive to questions and concerns. The only downside is they are a little outdated and are more expensive than a similar property a couple miles away. That being said you are paying for the location... nice to be able to walk to school/work.

Great One Bedroom

Med Center Courts have amazing one bedrooms for any med students looking for some space to themselves. The apartments are clean with plenty of light. Many are around courtyards with grills/picnic tables for the summer. All have laundry in building, an extra storage space in the basement for each apartment, and an air-conditioning unit built into the living room wall. The apartments are pet friendly with an extra fee. The staff at MCC are really responsive and friendly and it is great living so close to school and the hospital. The only thing I can think that might improve the space would be better air conditioning (the unit does a great job of cooling down the living room/kitchen, but doesn't reach the bedroom well). It is somewhat expensive, but that is going to be the case when living alone and you are paying for the location of being right next door to the hospital in the white coat area which is ideal.

Good Enough!

Med Center Court Apartments are just a 12 min walk to the hospital and medical school. They aren't anything special but are also pretty cheap. Very good management company who has always been friendly and easy to work with.

North Campus is the place to be!! Lots of trails and nature for walking, NCRB gym nearby, grocery stores, gas, food, and more. Mostly graduate students up here so quieter but also within 10 min drive to downtown. There's always parking too.
I have lived in A2 for going on 14 years, it is sort of like having a friend, even when you are alone.

Me and a friend and her dog visit neighborhood parks.

That dog met the caged bald eagle at Leslie Science Center.. and twang!
To the end of his leash! The eagle looked at him like he was the most delicious thing he's seen all Winter. We just trudged thru the snow to view the cages, (both eagle and dog are ok)
Great quieter area very close to the hospital, and close to many other med students. It’s a more peaceful area that’s a tad farther from downtown, but for someone who likes a quieter space to study or nice spaces to walk and hang out with friends, white coat area is right by the river and Island Drive Park, and there are often med student social events held at White Coat Area because so many medical students choose to live here.
I personally really like North Campus, although it is farther away from downtown and the law school. There are several restaurants right near my apartment complex and the commute to school is very easy. I also find the lack of nightlife a plus, because it means the neighborhood is a lot quieter and safer than other areas of Ann Arbor.
Overall this area is great for walking to the medical school and hospital, living near other medical students, and especially having easier parking than in the central downtown/kerrytown areas. You also escape the rowdiness of undergrads by living here. The main reason I gave it a "7/very good" rating was because I don't like feeling isolated in location from central campus. Walking from White Coat to restaurants/bars downtown is at least 20-25 minutes, and often I decide not to go just because I don't want to walk there and back. After 6PM everyday parking is free downtown (free all day on Sunday), which is nice, except you don't always want to drive if you are going out to bars. It would be nice to have some type of casual coffee shop or restaurant in walkable distance to White Coat, but there is not. (edit: there is one breakfast-like cafe near White Coat, but it gets busy and is over-priced). There are some restaurants and coffee shops down the street on Plymouth road (not downtown) which is an easy 5 minute drive.
Multiple apartment/condo complexes within 10 minute walk of one another creating central location for many medical students of the University of Michigan. Park is 5 minute walk away. Lecture halls are 15 minutes door to hall. Hospital is 15-20 minutes from door to specific area of hospital. Never any safety issues. Parking can be strict and limited. Few stores and restaurants nearby.
This neighborhood is a 10 minute walk to the hospital which makes is very popular for medical students, residents, and even attendings. It is quiet, but it can be very busy in the morning and around 4pm when everyone is arriving/leaving their shifts. Grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants are a 5 min drive away near north campus.
Pros: beautiful - near the Huron River (5 min walk!) and trails and lots of trees. Very quiet. Residential area - maybe only 20% students vs. long-term residents where I am, though I'm close to the hospitals and med students, architects, and engineers all live up here. Very safe, and I see deer or even a raccoon once in a while. Grocery store is 1 mile away (Kroeger).

Cons: less social than I like in terms of proximity to Rossers. There is only one on my street that I know of.
