Cozy and comfortable, close to AU campus

I really like living here. My studio is very spacious and utilities are included in the rent so it's affordable overall for the area. Lots of restaurants nearby, including Target, Giant, Streets Market. There are two metro stops within walking distance (Cleveland Park and Van Ness-UDC), plus access to buses. The community is welcoming, racially diverse and safe.

Good but expensive

I have adequate space and the building does come with a few nice things like a workout room. Compared to some other DC apartment buildings the amenities are lackluster. No pool, rooftop terrace, nor washer and dryer in the apartment. The staff is friendly and the building is kept clean. I wish I was paying less money but I think I would feel that way no matter where I lived seeing as DC is so expensive.

Overall a nice building

So far I have had a positive experience in the building. My apartment layout is very nice for a 490 sq.ft. Studio. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. They are in the process of renovating the building so construction can be loud and annoying at times. Overall, nothing has completely made me dislike the building and it is a comfortable place to live.

Beautiful apartments!

I'm been living here now for over 5 years. It was the first place I lived when I moved to DC and have been loving it ever since! The renovated units are gorgeous, the building is working on renovating one unit at a time, as people leave. I moved into a renovated one bedroom this year. Great to have my electric/heating/and water covered in the rent. There's even a garage for parking, though a bit pricey. I love having a concierge available 24/7. Some units have incredible views of Rock Creek Park too!

Open and Pet friendly

This apartment buildings has been good to live-in! Great gym in the basement and its close to trails for someone with an active pup. Inside the studio there are high ceilings, awesome walk-in closet space and big open windows that let's in lots of light. Only complaint is that Cleveland Park is not as hopping as it used to be and difficult to get across town in a timely fashion to U st/Adams Morgan in a timely manner, if you don't want to take a Lyft/Uber.

Not worth the price

This apartment building used to be great value for the neighborhood, but ever since they renovated the units and now charge much higher rent it is not worth it. Yes the renovated units look nice but they are still in a very old building, the walls are paper thin and the bathrooms have no windows and hardly a vent (which means mold!!!) If you are going to pay a high rent, look elsewhere in the neighborhood, there is much better value!

It's fine

I'd say everything is more or less "fine" about this place. Management is ok, not the most communicative, but I've seen SO much worse. I guess my biggest gripe is that it seems very expensive for what you get, but that's most people in DC. Major perks -- safe location, if not the most interesting neighborhood, excellent maintenance staff and most people at the front desk have been nice and helpful.

Great deal and location in Cleveland Park

I was able to secure a rent special upon move in, and love my studio apartment! I have plenty of space, a huge closet, and live in one of my favorite neighborhoods.

Just ok

It's just ok. The management does the bare min. The cleanliness is just ok. The gym is just ok. The location is great. It's only one block away from the metro station and many restaurants, grocery stores, movie theater, bars, and nail salons. The appliances are old and crusty.

It has been good overall. Most of the time the staff has been polite and helpful. The building managers over the years have been of varying quality. I had qualms about allowing pets, but so far have had no negative experiences because of this. Don't expect much.

Getting around Forest Hills

Forest Hills Reviews

44 reviews
The Forest Hills/Van Ness neighborhood is great. It is a very short walk to Tenleytown (15 mins) and a 10 min walk to the Van Ness Metro, Giant Food, CVS, and a plethora of good coffee shops and restaurants. The M4 bus stops 3 blocks up the road and takes you straight to AU and the L2 runs very consistently on Connecticut Ave. The Chesapeake backs up to Forrest Hills Park and Rock Creek is right down the street with lots of trails. Overall, the whole neighborhood is very safe and student-friendly.
The neighborhood is very nice. Many things are in walking distance like a few restaurants, a movie theater, and the Cleveland Park Metro stop. It is a bit of a food desert in that the grocery stores and restaurants that are accessible are a tad on the expensive side. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and people are usually pretty friendly. Overall, a decent neighborhood for people at different stages in their lives.
Van Ness is on several bus routes and very near to the (Van Ness) metro stop. Moving off of Connecticut Ave. quickly becomes entirely residential, but there are restaurants and other amenities (such as grocery stores, dry cleaners, etc) along Connecticut. It's not a crazy or busy neighborhood like several others, which personally, I appreciate, but it does mean you'll have to go a bit farther than home if you're looking to go out for the night.
Van Ness/Forest Hills is quiet and a little boring. Not a lot of places to go out to eat or grab a drink in the immediate area. However, Cleveland Park and Tenleytown are fairly close. I love walking our dog up around International Drive and the embassies there. We frequently see deer coming up from Rock Creek Park, and the UDC/Howard Law students are mostly very courteous (many of them live in the neighborhood too, so they care about it also). The neighborhood feels very safe--lots of police presence, Secret Service sub-station in the neighborhood, and the local vagabonds are not aggressive to pedestrians--they mostly mind their own business.
I like the area on Connecticut avenue, just wish there were better food options. Great community, overall safe, love the HBCU next door (UDC). UDC is a great HBCU and community to be near.
Nice, quiet, and safe with some restaurants in the area. Seems very family friendly and slower paced than downtown. Easy access to grocery stores.
Close to the Zoo and great restaurants. Close enough to Downtown, but far enough away where you're not in the chaos but still in DC.
Pros: safe area (I can let my dog out after midnight and feel safe), <10 min walk to metro, bus stop right outside, grocery store/CVS <10 min walk away (although the giant isn't the greatest), lots of on-street parking available (great for guests),
Cons: not a lot of activities within walking distance
