Decent place- rent controlled

3003 van ness is a good spot near AU. I recently joined the tenants association and they’re always working towards making the building a safer place. It has a huge outdoor pool, great gym, close to a grocery store and about 1 block from the Van Ness - UDC red line stop, and the H2 and L2 busses.

Pretty Great Place

Right near the van ness metro, giant, cvs and starbucks, and Rock Creek Park, this large apartment complex is surprisingly friendly and feels like its own small neighborhood within the city. Decent customer service, I feel safe and heard if any issues should arise. Being in this area means I have slightly more space for my money but can easily access downtown or any part of the city.

Great Place

Awesome place to live right next to the Van Ness metro (red line), a Giant, and a CVS. A little more expensive than I would prefer to pay being outside city center but it makes life easy because of its location and amenities. Service has been wonderful, and the only thing you truly have to take care of it securing your own internet provider.

Nice

Apartment is spacious and apartment requests are fixed quickly, but there are some mice and numerous students from UDC have their student housing in the building so it can be noisey on the weekends. Otherwise fine.

Good Value

The apartment itself is nothing to write home about. The kitchen and bathroom are both dated. It doesn't have the nicest fixtures or finishes. But the value is really great. The bedrooms are huge and there are 2 walk-in closets in the apartment so there is plenty of storage space. I've had some issues with responsiveness from management about maintenance issues but nothing when it's been an emergency. It's extremely close the to Van Ness metro (Red Line) which makes getting around the city really easy. The Giant next door is also very convenient.

Easy student housing

Located near UDC and Howard Law and within easy commuting distance to AU. We converted a 2 bedroom into 3 living spaces easily to make it more affordable. The apartment shared a pool with surrounding buildings and it was big and nice for the summer. I would recommend the apartment for other students.

Safe Area and Good Location

The Van Ness/Forest Hills area feels very safe. The apartment complex is huge and everybody is very friendly.
The location is also perfect - right near the Metro station at Van Ness and local Giant supermarket.
Apartments are a good size and the facilities are good. The bathroom showers are great!

Spacious and nice amenities

The building is well kept and safe. There is also a pool , fitness center, and parking garage. The underground walkway that connects to the Giant grocery store next door is super convenient in the cold weather! Laundry on each floor is also very nice.

Forest Hills Reviews

The Forest Hills/Van Ness neighborhood is great. It is a very short walk to Tenleytown (15 mins) and a 10 min walk to the Van Ness Metro, Giant Food, CVS, and a plethora of good coffee shops and restaurants. The M4 bus stops 3 blocks up the road and takes you straight to AU and the L2 runs very consistently on Connecticut Ave. The Chesapeake backs up to Forrest Hills Park and Rock Creek is right down the street with lots of trails. Overall, the whole neighborhood is very safe and student-friendly.
The neighborhood is very nice. Many things are in walking distance like a few restaurants, a movie theater, and the Cleveland Park Metro stop. It is a bit of a food desert in that the grocery stores and restaurants that are accessible are a tad on the expensive side. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and people are usually pretty friendly. Overall, a decent neighborhood for people at different stages in their lives.
Van Ness is on several bus routes and very near to the (Van Ness) metro stop. Moving off of Connecticut Ave. quickly becomes entirely residential, but there are restaurants and other amenities (such as grocery stores, dry cleaners, etc) along Connecticut. It's not a crazy or busy neighborhood like several others, which personally, I appreciate, but it does mean you'll have to go a bit farther than home if you're looking to go out for the night.
Van Ness/Forest Hills is quiet and a little boring. Not a lot of places to go out to eat or grab a drink in the immediate area. However, Cleveland Park and Tenleytown are fairly close. I love walking our dog up around International Drive and the embassies there. We frequently see deer coming up from Rock Creek Park, and the UDC/Howard Law students are mostly very courteous (many of them live in the neighborhood too, so they care about it also). The neighborhood feels very safe--lots of police presence, Secret Service sub-station in the neighborhood, and the local vagabonds are not aggressive to pedestrians--they mostly mind their own business.
I like the area on Connecticut avenue, just wish there were better food options. Great community, overall safe, love the HBCU next door (UDC). UDC is a great HBCU and community to be near.
Nice, quiet, and safe with some restaurants in the area. Seems very family friendly and slower paced than downtown. Easy access to grocery stores.
Close to the Zoo and great restaurants. Close enough to Downtown, but far enough away where you're not in the chaos but still in DC.
Pros: safe area (I can let my dog out after midnight and feel safe), <10 min walk to metro, bus stop right outside, grocery store/CVS <10 min walk away (although the giant isn't the greatest), lots of on-street parking available (great for guests),
Cons: not a lot of activities within walking distance
