Quiet but great

Its not the wildest place to live, its actually very calm and clean. They fine you if you're too loud and have parties, but its worth while if you want peace!

Clean and quiet apartment on 9th street

810 is a quiet building on 9th street compared to S9 and B9. Price is on the expensive side relative to the amenities and location.

Fake nice place

The apartments are probably the nicest on 9th street, which isn’t saying much. The property is incredibly expensive for what you get and they increased the rent by 12% after 1yr. The street facing Iredell is also dangerous. We’ve heard gun shots and there was one time that the people on the first floor had their window broken from a gun fight. Maintenance is the best on 9th street, there are little cockroach sightings here and the apartment is very good about spraying. For the cost though, you can get an equally nice if not better apartment downtown and save ~$200/month

Comfortable - Too expensive

See the above review title. It's a pleasant experience. It's quiet. It's also probably the best place on 9th St. for people with partners. There are many places in Durham for less money, I plan on moving out after my one-year lease ends. Things to note: the property management team is nice, but a little disorganized, especially as it relates to beginning the lease. Also, there is an area of the apartment without lighting.

Great space

A very clean apt with a pretty quiet atmosphere. This building mainly houses older grad students (typically 30 yrs or older). there are not many mms or MQM students living here but and there are not many MQM student living in surrounding apts, however 9th street had everything you could possibly need and that’s a bonus. My apt is great quality and the facilities here are also great.

Happy medium

Overall 810 is good. The location is close to everything and it is not too loud/rowdy like S9 or dead like B9. Management is helpful whenever you need anything but is a little too strict on noise.

My experience living at 810 for two years

810 is a newer complex on Ninth street. It's an immaculate and organized community. The amenities are great. It's within walking distance of everything on the Ninth street. This can be a con or a pro, depending on you. The management is very strict with everything starting from how many people you can have as a guest, not having any gatherings in the building without management permission, etc. Also, it's pretty apparent that the whole apartment is made of wood, so you can hear your upstairs neighbor all the time. The parking garage is a maze and everyone drive around it like a maniac. Whoever came up with the parking design should be awarded the designer of the decade! The big question is that is it the apartment worth the current asking price that management believes it's fair to ask. I would say no, for sure. The apartment complexes on Ninth street are aware that Duke graduate students prefer to live in these apartments, and as a result they're increasing prices yearly.

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
