Love it

Location is absolutely amazing! Love being near the metro (2 blocks). The rooftop area has gas grills, lots of seating (with cushions!), WONDERFUL views of the city, and even has a rooftop pool! Cant wait for that to open. Building allows pets, has a great little gym too.

Awesome building in a great location

I've lived here since 2009 (6 years total) and love the building's location. It is easy to walk to the Metro, Circulator, Bikeshare, and Safeway grocery store and there are a lot of young professionals that live in the building which makes it a great place for law students.

About Mount Vernon Square

Mount Vernon Square is one of DC's flourishing and attractive neighborhoods. Its location and easy access to convenient transportation as well as its rows of restaurants, nightclubs and shops makes it a popular choice for youngsters. This area also encloses the city's history in the 'Central Library of the District of Columbia' and displays architectural skills in its buildings.

Reviewers say it's a quiet spot but very close to U Street and downtown. Sometimes it lacks in character due to the abundance of high rises, but it's a fairly new neighborhood with a lot of promise for the next new years.

Mount Vernon Square Reviews

24 reviews
The neighborhood itself is very quiet, but it's really close to U Street and downtown. I walked to campus everyday and it was a lovely 25-minute walk past the White House. There's an awesome Mexican-Asian grocery store about 2 blocks away and a Giant about 20 minutes. There's a 24 hour CVS around the corner as well as a liquor store so basically everything you could want is in short walking distance.
The Mount Vernon area has great walkable access to most things you need, making it a very convenient place to live. Safeway, good fast-food options like sweetgreen chipotle and taylor gourmet, hardware store, coffee shops, public transportation, bike share, restaurants in shaw, city center, chinatown.
Mount Vernon is close to tons of options for food, bars, entertainment, etc. Grocery and CVS are nearby also. Very close to the metro, also. The are is fairly safe. I feel comfortable walking at night, but also know that I have to be careful. The area is patrolled by police pretty often.
Pros:
Near by Gallery Place, Judiciary, and Convention Center metro stops
Many close by local coffee shops
Safeway across the street

Cons:
The neighborhood is safe, but not as safe as other areas of the city.
Lots of high rises, with lots of amenities available, including great bars and restaurants, gyms, public spaces, etc. Easy commute to downtown. Sometimes lacking in character, but otherwise a great option
Right across the street from a Safeway, bank, takeout food options, hardware store, cafes, etc. It is always well-lit and feels very safe. You hear sirens, but no more than any other place in DC.
Restaurants, bars, grocery store, the BEST Ace hardware store ever, chipotle... all within a block! Metro access is great and you're walking distance to the national mall.
Safe area close to Chinatown to the east (union station past that) and then 14th street corridor to the west (dupont past that). You can walk almost anywhere in NW DC.
