DO NOT LIVE HERE

There are two good things about living in the Aston. 1- You instantly met a group of other law students. 2- You live close to the law school.

Other than that, this building is awful. There have been several problems including hot water shortages, kitchen sink back-ups (leading to kitchen flooding), AC/ heater outages, etc. You pay an obscene amount of money for living in very poor quality housing. Even after making requests to fix the problems, GW Housing rarely, if ever, fixed the problem immediately. If the Aston is any indication, GW doesn't seem to care much about its students' living conditions.

I do not recommend living here.

Decent, No Major Issues

Landlord is responsive, decent sized studio. Cheap appliances but quick response when they break. A little overpriced, but not by much when including utilities (incl cable, internet, electric). Easy walk to red, blue, silver orange lines, free shuttle after dark.

GW Grad Student Housing

Convenient, good size, but its pretty much undergraduate housing. It takes awhile to get something fixed. Be prepared to send a lot of emails and make a lot of phone calls to see results. In my experience if you only contact facilities once, they will essentially forget about you. Also, a lot of people's heaters broke during record cold weather, including my own. It took them a few days to come fix mine. Think very carefully before living here. There are better options.

Just fine for a year

It was okay living in the Aston. The heater was most of the time the major problem, and occasionally no hot running. Other than that, the building was most of the time kept clean. However, compared to the rent we pay per month, it was too expensive.

High price for living like a freshman

For $9,500/semester, you, too, can be subject to all the rules and regulations applicable to freshman housing! Amenities include non-functioning heat, iffy hot water, and random leaks. If this place were about half the price, then I'd say it's a reasonable value. However, I've had issues with almost everything in the apartment and submitting a work request doesn't always solve the problem quickly--for example, it took over a week for GW to respond to my request to fix the bathroom sink which wouldn't turn off. Not every unit has these problems but a significant portion do. The camaraderie of living with a bunch of 1Ls is nice but this place is still not worth the money. Save yourself a bunch of headaches and go someplace else.

Love this area, right near Logan Circle and 14th street which has so much good food and nightlife!
Amazing neighborhood. Close to GW and close to so much good food and nice restaurants.
Sometimes noisy, but the front desk quickly deal with it if you ask
Great, Safe neighborhood with great food and close to campus.
Foggy Bottom/West End are great for 1Ls -- you will get to know the area around school and you will be conveniently within a few blocks of GW. There are a lot of food options, but night life is lacking (though you're a short walk to DuPont and Georgetown). There are plenty of busses and metros around.
Good only in the sense that it is near the school, that you can receive warnings from the school and D.C. (if signing up), that you can be assured of safety generally even if coming in late due to pulling off night studies in the library. However, noise levels are high, so you can hardly study indoors at home because of people wanting to earn money in exchange for their loud and terrible performances. This means that you may ultimately end up outside for work or rest during morning/afternoon. Noise in the evening can be high too due to some people having gone drunk. Noise (some loud trucks and mostly machine sounds) and lights can be too much for sleeping deeply.
It's really only convenient because of how close the law school is. Otherwise, I would not live here. Definitely a business/corporate area that shuts down on the weekends. Not a lot of options for going out to eat unless it's either overpriced or fast food. The only grocery store that's walking distance is Whole Foods, which I personally hate shopping at.
The Aston is the furthest GW housing from the campus, so we had to walk more than any other student to get to class. We are also the furthest away from any Metro station, but still not considerably far when you look at the big picture. There are grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby which is a perk, but it is pretty noisy around here. But I guess that's anywhere in Downtown DC. There are always cars honking, ambulance sirens, etc. But the area seems pretty safe.
