The best kept secret in Glover Park!

Walking distance from Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Safeway, Carillon House Apartments is a 15-minute commute from American University. The rental feel includes water, electricity, and gas. There is an on-site gym, laundry facilities, and bicycle storage. The building feels like a hotel: it is very clean and work orders are completed in a timely manner. I will stay here for the next two years.

Nice place to stay!

Very affordable option! Typically very quiet. The appliances and building are a little dated but I can't complain about that considering the price. Wifi is included and you just need to buy your own router. It works fantastically 95% of the time. I only have a couple issues. While heating and AC is "included" in rent, the building is either on for AC or heat. So apartments are pretty unbearably hot during hot periods in fall when the building is on heat. Also, noise is typically not a problem since residents are respectful but you can easily hear people in the hallway that walk by. The rooftop is a plus!

Bad Experience

I faced and Im still facing huge issues. The management is bad, my apartment flooded three times and they moved me three times. They don't care about their residents.you can't find them.
I was thinking to sue them

Smoke friendly, slow internet, locked utilities

This place is smoke-friendly! In addition to having an ash tray at every entrance, they have an ash tray outside every elevator on every floor. People smoke outside my window all the time--especially at night. Management says "no smoking," but it's rarely enforced. So, if you are a smoker, or love smelling others smoke in the elevators and stairwells, then this place is for you.

However, if you are a student, then don't live here. The "free" internet is a waste of time because it is VERY SLOW (almost non-existent). You won't be able to watch lectures or simply do literature searches anytime after 5pm.

Finally, "utilities included" is a half-truth. They regulate when you are allowed to use heat or AC (no heat in the summer and no AC in the winter). Which sounds reasonable except during seasonal transitions when it may be hot and muggy outside, but all you can do is crank up the heat.

Can feel far from school but living arrangements are EXCELLENT!

The walk uphill from campus can be annoying, but having all utilities including internet included in the rent is awesome. The AC/heating system works great, water is always hot when I want it to be, and I've never seen mice or had a pest issue, which can be an issue I've heard in the nearby townhouses in Glover Park. The only caveat is wifi can be slow, but you can always pay $40 extra monthly for high speed internet through Comcast. I just go to Starbucks or stay on campus to study, but I do wish there was a cafe nearby that opened late. There's a small gym in the building, laundry is with a reloadable card, and there's indoor parking if you want to pay for it. The sundeck is awesome when the weather is nice, and has a great view of the entire city since the building's on top of a hill. Overall, you should live here if you're okay with not living right across from campus. There IS a shuttle you can take 4 minutes walking distance from the apartment.

Could use an upgrade

The apartment and the building itself could use some upgrading. Hallways are a little dark but my studio is quite large and has great windows and sunlight. The neighborhood, Glover Park, has some useful amenities nearby but is not the most happening or active area of DC.

Experience

It's great the Carillon House is quiet so I can focus at home while I am studying. I wish the cost of laundry was not as expensive as it is right now. Even though the rent is somewhat high, it is still a nice apartment to live in. The internet is kind of slow, which is hard for when I study at home.

Great place to live, but few caveats

Carillon house is great! Staff is friendly and always helpful. However, even though it comes with Internet in your rent, it's terrible. As a student I couldn't deal, so I have to pay for my own. Lastly, there are very little parking spots which is hard. The waiting list is approximately 8 months. All in all, great place to live. They have awesome holidays parties also!!

Glover Park Reviews

The neighborhood is very quiet and seems to be family-oriented. There are always people out on a walk. Everything seems to be very safe.
The only downside is poor public transportation access. There are no metro stops nearby. There is one bus (D2) right outside, which goes to Dupont Circle. Buses like 30, 31, and 33 are also accessible by a short walk. Not bad overall, but can make commutes somewhat long.
I love Glover Park. It is much more neighborhood than city. Wisconsin Ave has a good selection of restaurants and shops in walking distance. It's about a mile downhill to Georgetown University. Coming home, that mile is uphill! Decent bus service, no metro service at all. Uber has it covered very well.
Glover Park is an extremely safe area. It has tons of food options along with basically anything else you could need. The downside is it is not near any public transportation and the cost of living is veru high. It is extremely popular for young adults to move their after college graudation. Definitely a young, fun enviroment.
Glover Park feels like a small town in a big city. Full of quiet side streets that are great for walking/running. I feel very safe riding my bike to campus, to DuPont, to Georgetown, etc. It's a mix of students and young families, so I feel very safe.
Excellent neighborhood, quiet and close to short trail walks that take you directly into nature. Although there is no metro, there is a well-connected bus system. Trader Joe's and Safeway are both not too far and school is a good walk.
Safe area, walking distance to necessities, not a lot of noise, mix of young professionals right out of college and young families, decent amount of restaurants
Cozy suburb within DC. Lots of young families so neighbors are nice. Nice restaurants in the area, but not a very lively nightlife per se.
Easy access to whole foods, fast casual restaurants, good bar scene (Town Hall, Mad Fox, Bread Soda), Monday night trivia at Bread Soda!
