Carillon House

I love this apartment building. The location is very convenient to school and Glover Park is a really cute area and is very safe. The downside is no convenient metro shop. The management here is nice but always the quickest to respond. The maintenance staff is very helpful and will fix any problem quickly.

Review

The apartment is pretty pricey, but that is to be expected living in DC. The apartment building itself is pretty nice and very well maintained. There is a large and clean laundry room with multiple washers and dryers, and nice gym on site, as well as a bike room. The property managers do a good job of hosting events for the apartment community.

Carillon House

Pros:
- Price: offers some of the cheapest rates in the Georgetown area for studio and one bedroom apartments. Currently I believe rent is anywhere from $1350 - $1700 depending on the apartment layout. The rent also includes Internet (decent speed, you ned to buy a router), AC/Heat, water, electricity, cable (only very basic cable I.e. 10 channels) In my apartment search, the only options for single apartments I found in Georgetown that were comparable were basement apartments.
- Security: the building has a 24 hour doorman as well as key fob required access to enter the building. The doorman is one of the building residents and they usually don't monitor guests, so it's not the highest level of security. But it's comforting to know there's the extra set of eyes watching who comes & goes. Additionally, the area of Glover Park is safe.
- Location: 15 minute walk to campus. It's perfect, and not an unsafe walk late at night coming home from the library. The building is in an area of Zone 3 that is eligible for a DC Student Reciprocity Parking pass (~$375/year) so when you need a car as an M3 parking is really easy. There are always plenty of street parking spots in the surrounding blocks. Alternatively, the building has a garage where you can park for ~$175/month (there's a 6 month wait list for a spot). The building is located right on Wisconsin Ave: Starbucks, Rocklands, Whole Foods, CVS, Surfside, Chipotle as well as multiple other bars and restaurants are within a 5 min walk. Safeway is about a 10 min walk away - getting there is easy but coming back with groceries is tough as it is uphil. Luckily there is are bus stops right outside of Safeway and the apartment building and you can hop on if your bags are particularly heavy.
- Easy Access to public transportation: the bus stops outside the building which is really convenient. You can be at M street in 10 mins (about 25 mins away walking) and at the Foggy Bottom subway station in under 20. The busy street of Wisconsin Ave makes hailing a cab a piece of cake as well!
- Space: the apartments are huge with tons of space. In my studio, I have 3 closets 2 of which are walk ins. I've got all the shelves and hanging space a girl could dream of!
- Maitenance: the maintenance team is really quick with turn around. I've had my requests answered in the same day/next day.
- Laundry: many machines in the basement. Only problem is that they typically are full on the weekends with everyone doing laundry but if you strategize you'll never have a problem! (I.e do laundry during the week or early AM on weekend days)
- Rooftop: amazing views of the city.

Cons:
- Building Age/Aesthetics: the building is older, but they do do a good job with upkeep from what I can tell. The lobby area is very nice and they are in the process of renovating some of the apartments. I live in one of the older apartments and it's fine for what I need. With older buildings of course you wonder about the risk of critters - in my two years living here so far I have seen only one small unwelcomed friend, which I immediately reported to management. The building has exterminator come every week for such cases. I haven't heard of any major other issues on the topic.
- Noise: I haven't had a huge problem with this, but you can occasionally hear other tenants through the vent system. Some people who live on the Wisconsin Ave side complain that the street noise carries.

Overall, Carillon House is a great place to live. I've lived here for 2 years and am planning on staying for a 3rd. It's a great value for the money and in perfect location!

Close and hassle free

This building is close to the medical center (approximately an 18 minute/1.3 mi walk), in a safe location, close to Whole Foods and many restaurants/bars, and very responsive to maintenance needs. The rent includes a roof deck which is beautiful with lounge chairs and tables, gym in the basement, laundry in the basement, and 24 hour concierge to receive packages. Garage parking is available for $175/mo. There are studios, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments in the building.

Great place to live

As a med student, Carillon House is a great place to live - great location and best deal for your money in the Glover Park area. Pros - awesome roof deck, nice and prompt maintenance staff, roomy studio apartments with lots of light. Cons - older building, older gym equipment but works fine if you just need a treadmill, older laundry facilities. If you are hoping for a fancy brand new apartment building with all the amenities, this might not be the best fit for you, but if you're looking to be able to walk to school/hospital with a nice, safe building, it was a great place to live.

Studio apartment in Carillon House

Most apartments in the buildings are spacious studios with a big walk through closet to the bathroom. Each apartment has a large window so there is lots of natural light. The management is very responsive and friendly, and I have definitely enjoyed living here. There is also a nice rooftop that overlooks all of DC! Its one of my favorite parts of the building. The building is located in Glover Park (north of campus) which has grocery stores, CVS, fedEx kinkos, restaurants and bars - everything you need more or less. And its about a 20 minute walk to campus.

Good value near Gtown

The Carillon House is near Georgetown Univ which is great for me (15-20min walk away). A lot of other medical students live in the complex. Rent includes: electricity, heat/AC, and internet. The rooftop view is the best in DC! There is a small exercise room which is sufficient for me. Parking is available but the wait time is 1 year so get on the list quick! Also, try to get a unit with a new kitchen; I have a new kitchen and its the best (while my friend across the hall does not and it sucks). I never had bug problems but I know people who have. Maintenance is the best and they'll get things fixed same day! Overall, I would and have recommend it to my friends.

Glover Park Reviews

58 reviews
The neighborhood is very quiet and seems to be family-oriented. There are always people out on a walk. Everything seems to be very safe.
The only downside is poor public transportation access. There are no metro stops nearby. There is one bus (D2) right outside, which goes to Dupont Circle. Buses like 30, 31, and 33 are also accessible by a short walk. Not bad overall, but can make commutes somewhat long.
I love Glover Park. It is much more neighborhood than city. Wisconsin Ave has a good selection of restaurants and shops in walking distance. It's about a mile downhill to Georgetown University. Coming home, that mile is uphill! Decent bus service, no metro service at all. Uber has it covered very well.
Glover Park is an extremely safe area. It has tons of food options along with basically anything else you could need. The downside is it is not near any public transportation and the cost of living is veru high. It is extremely popular for young adults to move their after college graudation. Definitely a young, fun enviroment.
Glover Park feels like a small town in a big city. Full of quiet side streets that are great for walking/running. I feel very safe riding my bike to campus, to DuPont, to Georgetown, etc. It's a mix of students and young families, so I feel very safe.
Excellent neighborhood, quiet and close to short trail walks that take you directly into nature. Although there is no metro, there is a well-connected bus system. Trader Joe's and Safeway are both not too far and school is a good walk.
Safe area, walking distance to necessities, not a lot of noise, mix of young professionals right out of college and young families, decent amount of restaurants
Cozy suburb within DC. Lots of young families so neighbors are nice. Nice restaurants in the area, but not a very lively nightlife per se.
Easy access to whole foods, fast casual restaurants, good bar scene (Town Hall, Mad Fox, Bread Soda), Monday night trivia at Bread Soda!
