Connecticut Heights: Basic Apartments with great staff and maintenance

The complex has five buildings, four of which date from the 1920s and one of which dates from the 1980s. I live in one of the older buildings. The apartment is average sized for the price point, but does offer some nice perks like a ceiling fan, dishwasher, and built in microwave. The building has pleasant well maintained amenities, including an outdoor pool, and package service. The staff is friendly and responsive to tenant needs.

Convenient for American University Students

This apartment has been great while I have been going to grad school at American University. The location is close enough to the metro to get you to downtown in a couple stops, but also quiet enough to allow you to focus on school. There are a lot of students that live in this building, which can be fun. You can walk to the shuttle stop for American safely and quickly. All in all, it's the best of both worlds: close enough to campus to enjoy the amenities of student life, but far enough to also get a break from the "collegy" vibe.

Really like living here!

The location in Woodley Park is great because it's green and lots of families live around here so it is pretty quiet. I am a working professional so it's nice to come home to a quiet spot. Lots of other young people and families live in the building, too. I would definitely recommend to others!

Amenities are nice, but there are better places

Pretty good amenities, but the building is definitely one of the older ones in the area. Van Ness is quiet, and not as much to do as you have closer to Dupont Circle. Management is reasonable, but there are better places for the price range. One benefit is that you can use the indoor pool across the street at Ellicott House. Also the apartment building is filled with students (mostly AU), so keep that in mind to figure out if this is the right building for you.

Quiet Neighborhood close to the red line with large apartments

I've lived in this building for close to 4 years and I love it. I happen to like the quiet, almost suburban environment and it's close to the red line. The apartments are spacious and management is always helpful with maintenance issues that pop up.

Solid Apartment

Overall a nice big space for the money with pretty good management (do repairs quickly, good with packages), but a fairly long walk from the metro in a boring all residential neighborhood. Most residents are very young, either students or straight out of college.

One bedroom unit with Balcony is the best!

I have lived in the Connecticut Heights building for 7.5 years. I absolutely adore the neighborhood and feel very safe here, although it is a bit of a hike to the metro. The building recently became pet friendly which is a nice way to get to know your neighbors. The management office leaves something to be desired, they are not the most friendly or helpful. I had an experience several years ago where they hired contractors who ended up destroying my personal belongings. The management agreed to compensate me after a lengthy email and phone battle. The units have all been updated and many have a balcony attached which is a wonderful addition when the weather is nice. Also, the pool is a fantastic resource in DC in the summer time - very hard to find! I would recommend this building to someone who has been a professional for some time and has the ability to afford around $2000+ per month. If you are willing to spend this much, the amenities certainly make up for the cost. My experience was overall very good and I only moved because I purchased a condo.

Safe, safe safe! I can walk at night and I have never felt unsafe. very residential area so not a TON of restaurants/bars, but very close to the grocery store. Quiet and lots of families.
Haven't had any issues in the neighborhood. Everything is fairly quiet. Almost too quiet if you are a city person.
It's very quiet and residential, but close to Tenleytown and Cleveland Park bars and restaurants.
Pretty quiet neighborhood as far as DC neighborhoods go. I personally really like that about it as I prefer a quiet, darker, more residential scene, but maybe others would like it to be 'more happening.' It's a short ride to busier areas like DuPont or Adams Morgan though.
The area is quite suburban, especially off connecticut avenue. Plenty of parks and green space, which makes it great for pets. There are a few cafes, but no nightlife to speak of, and nearby grocery stores are definitely smaller and dated.
The complex is filled with either students, early-mid career professionals, or older retired individuals. The building is typically safe but I would suggest moving to a higher floor. The commute from tenley town circle to the apartment can be dangerous at night. My GF and our other roommates has been repeatedly stalked back to the building, chased, and even assaulted at gun point (turned out to be a fake gun). So please be aware of this. (I know this is not unique to this commute).
The neighborhood is very safe, but sleepy. There is no nightlife – most local restaurants close by 9pm every day.
Van Ness is a great neighborhood.
