The Yard Review
Good place if you want to be among people

The Yard
I think the Yard is a great place to live for MBA students. I know not everyone shares the same opinion as me but it's a 15 min walk from Ross, the units are spacious, everyone has their own bathroom, there's plenty of amenities (gym, pool, business center, lounge area).
The things that I don't like are the proximity to the train (you can hear it pretty loudly sometimes but after a while you get used to it), the lack of windows to allow natural lighting (we have 1 window in the main room but it's kinda small), and the management isn't great at addressing issues. But to be honest I haven't had to ask them for much in the 2 years I've lived here.

Good Enough!
There's often a lot of complaining about various issues but generally the employees are good about fixing issues. Also location is second to none and that's probably the most important aspect in your MBA1 year.

Good Option, But Expensive
Living at The Yard is generally convenient. Some pros:
- The apartment is within walking distance of campus.
- Management is fairly responsive to maintenance requests.
- The apartment comes furnished beforehand.
- Shuttle directly to campus every half hour.
However, the Yard is one of the most expensive apartments in Ann Arbor, which is frustrating. They also try to add on small charges here and there: e.g. no security deposit but you have a move-in fee (which, unlike a security deposit, is money you never get back) or they advertise a printing facility on site but you have to pay to use it. It is worthwhile if you want a hassle-free experience, and I really appreciated how easy it was to facilitate the leasing and moving in process especially since I hadn't had the chance to even visit Ann Arbor before moving in.

Nicest place I've lived
I love living here. Especially bc of the gym. The dishwasher doesn't work great though.

Good communal living spot, can be loud with inflexible management
Train can be loud, and undergrads make noise, but if you want a communal environment with pretty good amenities it is a good choice. Nice location close to Ross, downtown Ann Arbor, and lots of outdoor activities. Also close to the stadium.

Mixed Opinions
The apartment itself has everything I need and made it simple when meeting other people in a remote environment simply because many other students live here. They have not taken many cleanliness things, related to COVID in particularly, very seriously and have haphazardly closed/reopened apartment amenities. That said, they have been quick to make repairs as needed.
The biggest downside was moving in and the difficulties they had with determining when that was allowed throughout the entire summer.
There are also a number of things about the apartment itself that are simply designed poorly, doors open into one another, and half of my closet isn't accessible because its not a sliding door.
The largest benefit of living here has been its furnished.
