You Get What You Pay For

Duke Manor is in walking distance to Duke's west campus and relatively cheap considering neighboring complexes, which is it's largest attracting point. However, the management isn't always prompt with responding to emailed inquiries. Additionally, there are several children in the neighborhood and you can hear them playing outside until sundown (not ideal when working from home).

Good for the price

There is a lot of maintenance visits (pest control, smoke detector battery change) that come into your apartment regularly, but other than that, the place is a great value for what you pay for.

Duke Manor Review

The apartment is close to campus and affordable. The apartment is close to the train tracks. I would say that it has all the issues that you would find in an apartment complex. The price makes is attractive for someone that wants to live on their own.

Storage is an issue though. I only have one closet, but I have made due with the storage available.

It’s OK

Since I couldn’t see the apartment for myself before picking it, pictures can be deceiving. My rent includes furniture (it’s about $150 a month, you have the option to choosing) so it was nice not having to worry about buying the big stuff that you’re only going to use for a year. The neighborhood itself is a little sketchy. Two reported robberies happened during my 5 months here. I just make sure not to walk alone at night and I park closest to my apartment door. Management is great to deal with and maintenance is usually pretty quick with responding and fixing whatever needs to be fixed.
