Prime location

Loved the management company. They were very easy going. Apartment wasn't great, but was a PRIME location and cheap for the area. So you are paying almost exclusively for the location, but it was worth it fun-wise.
Laundry is on-site, but there is only one not-so-great washer and dryer for the whole building. Apartment was moldy and definitely made all of our clothes smell after a while... but we really loved the area, the fact the management company was so nice and accommodating, and they were pretty lax on pet policy.
I was allowed two cats when I moved in. Then I got a dog and I didn't have to pay any extra deposit.
Everyone in the apartment mostly keeps to themselves.
It is near a nice dog park, but there are also lots of homeless people around.
It is street parking only. My car got broken into on a regular basis - so much so that I emptied it of my possessions and stopped locking it so they would stop breaking my windows. But that is just city life.
Right near NW 21st and NW 23rd street so the bar and restaurant scene is pretty sweet.

Alphabet District

We got this apartment on a REALLY great deal. It is under-priced for the area. The actual building isn't all that great - its old, one bed room doesn't have a closet, creeky, a little leaky, and things often quit working. However, the management company does a great job at quickly fixing whatever breaks. Above all else, the location is to die for. A block from 21st (great bar ave) so never having to worry about driving, yet far enough away that it is always very quiet and peaceful. Primary downfall is the parking - all on street parking. The first night I moved in I got my car broken into. Lots of petty theft/crime, but I have never seen anything violent or felt unsafe.
