Happy to Stay Here for Awhile

Water Park Towers is the second apartment building where I have lived in Arlington, VA, and it is by far the better building. The unit and amenities are up-to-date and well-maintained. The staff, both the front desk staff and leasing office staff, are fantastic. Plus, the building's location cannot be beat; the building is close to a pharmacy, grocery store, many restaurants, a movie theater, several shopping areas, and the WMATA metro. I highly recommend this building if it falls in your budget.

great but a little far from school

It's a pretty new and clean apartment, but it takes some time to grocery store or the metro, and a little bit far from school.

Nice and relatively cheap alternative to living within DC

I recently moved to the DC area to go to grad school at Georgetown and before making the move I looked at 20+ apartment complexes in various neighborhood of DC and Arlington. Water Park Towers came out as the best combination of price, amenities, and location for me. The building itself is fairly old (built in the 80’s) but all of the residential floors (hallways and apartments) have recently been renovated and are modern. There is also currently a project going on to renovate the lobby and whole first floor which is supposed to look very nice once completed. My one bedroom apartment is pretty spacious and has a balcony, hardwood floors (carpet in the bedroom), new kitchen appliances, and in-unit washer/dryer. The building has a free gym which is decent and the outside pool is very nice. Although I wish I knew ahead of time that when it is open during the summer season, it only opens at noon (or maybe 11). Garage parking is pretty affordable at $90/month and the other people living in the building are very nice- combination of some students and older people working in the area, everyone is pretty quiet. My biggest and only real complaint about the building is the shared utilities. All utilities used by the building are pooled monthly and then split up and billed to everyone based on apartment occupancy. So far, for 2 people living in a one bedroom, utilities have averaged between $150 and $200 per month (not including cable/internet) which I think is too high. Otherwise, I’ve enjoyed living in the building. There are many restaurants and Whole Foods within walking distance and the Crystal City metro station (blue and yellow lines) is a 3 minute walk away. Getting to Georgetown is a little rough, but otherwise it’s a very convenient location.

Near metro, bars, restaurants, shops

I like the apartment because its right next to the metro, which has tons of shops and eateries in it. Plus there are tons of great bars and restaurants near. You can see the memorial from the building and have great walking paths, so if you have a pet it's great.

Getting around Crystal City

Crystal City Reviews

Extremely safe and friendly neighborhood. I have gotten very involved in my local Catholic church that is right down the street. You can instantly tell the difference when you leave DC that your environment has changed. The people are friendly, you are not scared that you will get robbed, and there are no signs of blight. I would highly recommend the area.
Tons of restaurants within walking distance. Plenty of grocery stores within a 5 minute drive (Costco, Harris Teeter, Giant). Costco is walkable if you can carry your costco-sized groceries or if you bring your own cart.
Overall, Crystal City is a great place to live, and often overlooked when compared to Pentagon City. This is a pretty suburban area, with a mix of homes and apartment complexes. There are tons of restaurants nearby, and it's enjoyable since they're mostly walking distance. Added perk - Arlington Public Library tucked into the neighborhood between the main Crystal City area and surrounding Pentagon City area.
If you have a family it’s great, if your single it’s great also. Easy access to major highways and metro. Tons of activities and events through out the year. Safe environment to walk at night.
Generally a more commercial area, so it is pretty quiet at night. Crystal Drive is full of cool restaurants and bars.
Crystal City has been a convenient place to live because I work there. However, it is not the most accessible to AU. I leave work early, but I don't have enough time to metro there, so I have to take an Uber from work, but it's manageable because I only go to campus twice a week. Although that's a little inconvenient, the area is very safe for a woman living alone, and it's very easy to get to downtown DC. There are many restaurants and grocery stores nearby, as well as the Pentagon City mall, which is within walking distance. My only complaint is that there is a lot of construction.
The neighborhood is very walkable and has very accessible public transportation. It's not somewhere you typically would go out at night since nightlife is nonexistent, but Amazon just moved in and there is semblance of that changing. It's great if you are active (many gyms, parks, and Mt. Vernon Trail Access), enjoy restaurants like Chick Fil A (one right outside my building), and want to be close to everything.
It is close to almost everything. Metro? Check. Mall? Check. Grocery store? Check. Place to eat and drink? you betcha. I feel safe walking around at night. The only draw back is that there is a fire station close by and you get to hear the wailing of the sirens. You get use to them though.
