I'm a fan

I have very positive feelings about this place. The best part is the shuttle in the morning. It drops you off within 45 seconds of the law school. In the winter I don't wear my coat in the van and often don't bother putting it on between the van drop-off and the law school.

The facilities aren't flashy, but are more than sufficient...they spent on the lobby and are renovating apartments gradually, but I'm not in one of the renovated ones. Still definitely meets my needs.

The maintenance staff is super responsive and requests are attended to, in my experience, within 48 hrs.

Location is fantastic!! It's right between University City and Center City, which means that you are proximate to school activities at Penn and also proximate to social activities downtown. You're 5 blocks from target, 3 blocks from Trader Joe's, dry cleaner in the basement, 1 block from Rite Aid, and 3 blocks from a liquor store. There are also a number of bars and restaurants within 5-10 minute walk!!

Security is pretty solid. There's a fob for the elevators; desk guys in the lobby 24/7 who recognize most residents, call you if you have a visitor, and let them up for you. Very convenient. Similar protocol if you order food...hold delivery at the desk and call you for pick-up.

The gym is fine, but if you have high standards/needs, then it may underwhelm.

I'm on the 2nd floor, which means a quick elevator ride, but my friends on the 32nd and 33rd floor, who spend longer in the elevator, have the most gorgeous views in the mornings and evenings!

That's all I can think of.

Solid option for any Penn grad student

This is a fantastic building with tons of space, a decent workout room, a dry cleaner on the bottom floor, a 24/7 front desk that receives packages, and a frequently running shuttle to campus. It's safe and easy to walk to from just about anywhere in Center City or University City. The downside is the price, but I got a discount on an overly large unit for me since it was the only one on its floor that hadn't been refurbished in the past 2 years. This building always has a long list of people looking to fill apartments, and a huge percentage of the tenants are Penn grad/med/law students and early professionals.

amazing staff!

Great building staff. You share laundry with your floor. They’re updating the apartments and I’m in one of the renovated ones. Heat is electric and you’re responsible for your electricity ($50 in the summer and $120 for the coldest month). Parking in the attached garage is $130/ month. They allow cats ($500 pet deposit). Security deposit is an entire month’s worth of rent. They’re flexible with your move out date if you need to extend for the bar exam etc. Gym is a little old looking but it works well.

Great Value for Money

2400 Chestnut is a wonderful building with very responsive management, reasonable rent for which you get quite a few amenities, and a convenient location close to both the hospital and Center City.

Not many frills, but for the things you need, it does well

2400 Chestnut isn’t going to make you feel that you’re living it up, but it’s got sturdy amenities (and in the off-chance something goes wrong, the management/repair people will be super on top of it), no pests (haven’t seen an actual insect in the apartment, ever), and good security. Other perks include the small gym downstairs, shuttle (can get you to school and back), and the nice doormen (who also handle mail). For proximity to center city, every other apartment building in the area will be significantly more expensive (i.e. 2116 Chestnut, Riverloft) - with the exception of Riverwest (which is much more run-down than 2400 Chestnut).

Overall solid apt

Apt definitely does the job. It's not overly nice or filled with amenities but I can't complain. There's a gym, free cable, and amazing shuttle in the morning (which turns into a mini school bus for Penn grad students).

Very good place. A lot of amenities and great things in the area (e.g. 24 hour rite aid). Close to law school. Negative is that it's loud sometimes.

Great Value and Location

Pros:
- Very convenient location (e.g., near Amtrak, near 2401 Walnut, near Trader Joe's, near 2116 Chestnut, 15 min walk to campus)
- Free cable, free 24/7 gym
- Free shuttle to Penn campus every morning
- Friendly management, doormen

Cons:
- Not much of a community with other Wharton/Penn students here, unlike other buildings
- No lounge
- Carpeted apartments are less "nice" than hardwood ones in other buildings

Fitler Square Reviews

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
