Value and Convenience

Super convenient location at a reasonable price has led this to become the Penn med "dorm". Nice, clean apartment building although it's a bit old, but renovations are ongoing every year. The morning and evening shuttle is clutch, especially in the winter time. There is an Indigo bike rack next to the building and it's 20 min walk max door to door, so all transportation options are great. Doorman for security and packages is very convenient as well. Definitely would recommend living here, especially if not from Philly area and don't have time to explore the rest of the city for an extended period of time.

Great apartment

Fantastic location: halfway between Penn Med and downtown. Shuttle between the apartment building and the Penn campus is a great amenity. Apartments are solid. Bathroom and Kitchen are fine. Bedrooms are good. Only major complaint is that the rooms do not hold heat well in the winter, leading to higher electric bills and the need for supplemental heating (e.g. space heater).

Excellent choice

Excellent location, safe with 24 hour doorman, extremely quick maintenance, well-maintained building, spacious rooms, and large windows. A little on the expensive side but lots of value for the money.

Couple in 2400 Chestnut

2400 is a sure bet. Doorman, elevators, repairmen when needed, no mice/roaches/vermin, and a shuttle to get you to campus in the morning. That said, it's pretty pricey and it feels like we could have gotten a better value elsewhere.

The best place to live!

I have absolutely loved my 3.5 years at 2400 Chestnut. The location is incredibly convenient. It is walking distance to campus (20-25 min), and 2 blocks from Trader Joe's and Rite Aid. From a public transportation perspective, it is just a 5-minute walk to 30th St. Station (Amtrak, regional rail, subway; plus BoltBus, Megabus, and LUCY shuttle right behind the station) and 22nd St. station (trolley), it is right next to a SEPTA bus stop as well as a Penn bus stop, and there is free van service just for 2400 residents on weekday mornings to Penn's campus. The management and staff are incredibly friendly and there is a 24-hour doorman who accepts packages. Maintenance requests are handled within 1 business day. The apartments are spacious with brand new windows that have great views. Lots of Penn affiliates live here. The only downsides I can think of are that the fire alarm accidentally goes off with some frequency, and the appliances are aging (though still perfectly functional). Overall, I wouldn't have wanted to live anywhere else (and my roommate and I have never once discussed moving).

Affordable high-rise, convenient location

Although 2400 Chestnut is admittedly an older building compared to other high-rises in the Center City area, it is definitely one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest. The location is amazing- close to Center City restaurants, Trader Joes, 30th St. Station, and a 20 min. walk from Penn Med and HUP. Moreover, the shuttle in the mornings and afternoons to University City that 2400 provides is wonderful for when it is cold or raining- you do have to get down to the lobby about 5-10 min. early to secure a spot on the van, but has not been a problem. The apartments itself are quite spacious with lots of storage space- the appliances and fixtures are older, but everything is functional and the management is wonderful/responsive. One thing to note is that it can get somewhat cold in the winter because of the large windows- they definitely let in lots of sunlight, but also leak a lot of heat. I have found this to be easily solved by using a space heater though!

Would definitely suggest

Gym is small, but does what I need it to. Building isn't in the best shape, but I think I am getting a good value and I like the location. Management and door men are very nice. Comes with cable, so that's nice. Shuttle isn't all that good of a deal (very cramped and bad times). Good amount of space. Parking is relatively cheap at 130 a month. 1 mile from law school- so 10 minute bike ride and 18 minute walk.

Love 2400 Chestnut - no complaints!

The staff is super friendly, the apartment is older than some of the other apartment buildings in Center City but is very well maintained. I have no complaints.

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
