LOVE Yale West

My studio apartment is by far the largest studio I've seen in this price range. It's L-shaped vs. one big room, which really gives the feel of separate living spaces. I have two gigantic windows that let in a ton of natural light. Concierge is great and the gym and rooftop pool are beautiful. Appliances are a little loud, but they're stainless steel which is attractive. Apartment was spotless when I moved in. Five stars!

Nice, but sometimes loud

I get a lot of space for what I pay, and the amenities are great (gym, rooftop pool). Recently, the building has become a lot louder -- and has started to feel a little bit like a frat house. But the walls are thicker than in some new buildings in DC.

Great value

Nice modern building with a great pool deck and nice gym in a walk-able, central downtown location.

-15 tier rooms are perfect for roommates and offer great square footage and closet space.

Management is friendly and puts on a great deal of events.

Up and Coming Area

This apartment complex has become an up-and-coming area since I moved in. While it is a bit loud at times (the highway is located just outside), I really love the close proximity to areas like Chinatown and Mt. Vernon Square and the Convention Center. It is also close to the hip area called Shaw. I have only had a few small instances where I felt unsafe at night in the apartment complex's back alley, and overall there is a strong police presence nearby. I think this area is a good value for anyone looking to stay in DC long term. The area is only growing and expanding.

Great space in a hip area of town!

Have been at the building for several years and have no real complaints. The amenities are great and the staff is very nice and helpful. It is easy to walk to several metro stations and DC hot spots. The rooftop pool is a great place to hang out during the summer and interact with neighbors. Building is very young and fun!

Excellent Building

Yale west is a fairly new building in a fantastic location. There are lots of great food options and very convenient metro access as well. The building has amazing amenities, including a pretty great gym and swimming pool. The prices are a bit high, but in line with a luxury apartment in the area.

Nice new building, great location

The building is really nice and it's incredibly convenient to have a gym on site. W/D in unit is also a huge plus! The construction next door can get loud at times (especially early in the morning). Rent is also pretty high.

Going on three years........

Going on my third year living in Yale West and overall, for the location and the amenities, it is a great deal. -15 tier unit is ideal for roommates, plus you have a rooftop saltwater pool, a pretty nice gym, and a courtyard with BBQ grills.

Yale West

Yale West is a fairly new building that is great for grad students and young professionals. The location is amazing and the staff are friendly and responsive. There is a Safeway across the street, and lots of places nearby to eat including a Chipotle

Expensive but worth it

Yale West is a newer apartment building with great views of the city. Its location in north Chinatown makes getting around the city by foot very easy. It's around a 30 minute walk to campus or a 20 minute bus ride. It's two blocks from the yellow/green line and 3-4 from the blue/orange/red lines. The staff are very friendly and know most residents by name. Maintence is always done promptly when requested. The rooftop pool is great during the summer, but they recently added some new rules like only allowing two guests. The gym is open 24 hours but missing things like a squat rack and barbells. It's not a budget residence, and the high price is unfortunate.

About Downtown

Downtown DC offers tourists and locals plenty to do between the various restaurants, historical attractions, and boutique shopping. This walkable neighborhood welcomes its visitors to walk between the Smithsonian Museums for daytime activities and Penn's Quarter at night to meet up with friends.

Prices here tend to be a bit higher but you get what you pay for in this situation. Being at the heart of downtown DC means you're at the center of the nation's capital. However, most reviewers say the area is actually fairly quiet since it's home to a large amount of government buildings.

Penn Quarter is a great neighborhood because you are really at the center of the city. It is walking distance to the Capitol, White House, and monuments. You are in the heart of the museum district with access to several of DC's famous museums. The restaurants and bars are great and have a ton of variety.
The neighborhood itself is very quiet, but it's really close to U Street and downtown. I walked to campus everyday and it was a lovely 25-minute walk past the White House. There's an awesome Mexican-Asian grocery store about 2 blocks away and a Giant about 20 minutes. There's a 24 hour CVS around the corner as well as a liquor store so basically everything you could want is in short walking distance.
The Aston is the furthest GW housing from the campus, so we had to walk more than any other student to get to class. We are also the furthest away from any Metro station, but still not considerably far when you look at the big picture. There are grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby which is a perk, but it is pretty noisy around here. But I guess that's anywhere in Downtown DC. There are always cars honking, ambulance sirens, etc. But the area seems pretty safe.
Great location. It is so close to the law school - its about an 8 minute walk away from class. Whole Foods is close and so is Trader Joe's. A downside is that there are no "typical" grocery stores close to hear. Also, it is not too far from Dupont Circle which is great to go to for some more dinner options.
Winston House is far away enough from campus that you can walk around without seeing students everywhere you go, but still allows you to get to class on time. Stoney's, which is right across the street, is a cool place to hang out and grab some food/ a beer, and Bruger's is close by for mornings. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are both easily walkable, and CVS is right down the block. Ideal area for students, although if you're looking for nightlife you will have to walk to dupont/ catch a cab to U street.
Since my apartment building is close to CVS which is open 24 hours, it has been a blessing for me to source snacks when I pulled all - nighters! The library and other university buildings too are close by, so even walking back home at 3 a.m. did not give me any jitters.

The lanes are relatively well-lit and can be used at any time of the day or night. Since the GW police vehicles are seen patrolling late at nights,I believe the streets within the foggy bottom campus area are safe and secure for any one to walk, with no reported issues so far.
Penn quarter is close to most places. Out of three roommates, two of us work in NoMa and one works near Farragut. All three of us walk when it is nice weather. The area doesn't have a lot of really cool, cultural bars but for every day places they are totally fine. There are lots of nearby groceries - safeway and walmart are walking distance from me. Its a safe area that can be a little pricey for rent.
Great neighbourhood if you like city life. Busy, loud, fairly safe area. Extremely accessible to the metro. Fairly central area. Near the Verizon center. Lots of restaurants and bars. Near the national mall. Can walk to work if I wanted to. Grocery stores close. No complaints for living in Chinatown!
