Would recommend southern village

Southern village is a great spot. Clean, safe and very near the bus stop so can take the bus straight up to Franklin or get off by hospital and walk to business school pretty easily. Would recommend. Lived here both years during MBA

Great location, nice apartments

Great location less than a 10 minute drive from UNC's campus in a relatively quiet and safe neighborhood. There are a number of shops and restaurants, including a Weaver Street Market, within walking distance in the Southern Village neighborhood. Property management and building maintenance are responsive and apartments are generally well maintained.

Beautiful, safe, neighborhood living

Living at Southern Village is comfortable, safe, relatively affordable, and a quick 5-10 minute drive to KFBS. 10min to Franklin Street/Carrboro, 10min to Trader Joe’s/Whole Foods/Harris Teeter, 15min to Durham, 20min to Raleigh. We have our own community shopping center that you can walk to with a small grocery (Weaver Street Market), and multiple restaurants and coffee shops.

Love this area

The apartment is in great shape and provides a wonderful location for a somewhat affordable price. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't care about living on-campus. Bus-line is available and walking distance to weaver street market.

Quiet, well maintained property with great access to bus line and shops

We love living in Southern Village. It has access to the bus line for school and has a handful of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. The club house and gym membership are nice perks.

The quality of apartments is good in terms of convenience, distance from the school, transportation (bus). But, the rent price can be somewhat a burden. It's around $500 higher than that of Baity Hill.

Getting around Southern Village

Southern Village Reviews

8 reviews
Southern Village is great with a handful of shops and restaurants walkable from my apartment. We just got an ABC store!
Really great neighborhood. Scroggs Elementary School is great for kids. The community has a lot of activities on the green in addition to the great dining options nearby.
Great neighborhood. Lots of fine restaurants, great security, a kids-friendly environment, etc.
Lots of room to move. Walking distance to anything you would ever need and a trail nearby !
There is some noise from neighborhood entertainment that you can hear, nothing too loud. Not distracting to me and doesn't occur late at night. Minor pest problems are from roaches only, but we do have pest control come out and it's included in the fees we already pay, no extra cost. There is a tiny gym, about average to most complexes. I walk to the business building from the bus stop, as I take public transit since it is free, and it takes <40 to get to class (total).
Lots of stores, gym in neighborhood, church, groceries--basically a little town. Con is that it almost feels a bit "Pleasantville." That said, the Walmart up the road (<2 min) is wonderful as is Fig & Honey and the huge Harris Teeter (<5 min away) in Chatham county. Families and children amidst Med School students and retirees. Great feeling, awesome convenience to UNC and downtown CH. Highly recommend.
Mostly graduate students, young professionals, and young families. Very safe, clean, quiet, lots of green spaces including the Southern Village Community Park which has basketball courts, tennis courts, large fields, and a 6mi running loop.
Great neighborhood with some shops, restaurants, and a park. If you want anything outside of that limited selection, it takes 15 minutes in the car to get to anything else.
