Safe, quiet, convenient

Southern Village is a great community. It is close to the shops at Southern Village - Weaver Street, Al's, Lumina - Southern community park and dog park, Fan Branch trail, Morgan Creek trail, and Merritt's Pasture. It's not glamorous, but it is well maintained and it is incredibly quiet and safe, and very convenient to campus, Chapel Hill, Jordan Lake and much more.

Good Bang for the Buck

Good quality and lots of space for a great price! Finishes are not very flashy, and it certainly is apartment living, but it is clean and in a convenient location. Of all the Chapel Hill apartments, I think Southern Village has the best location if you are looking for a garden style apartment.

Better than I expected

Great place, great service (if you have any sort of problem with your apartment they will come and fix it right away), close to groceries, lots of restaurants and movie theater.

Very well located

Safe and quiet with quick access to multiple parks and retail. The V and NS routes of Chapel Hill transit are also very close and give you really good access to campus if you do not have a car.

Great facility; mediocre location

It's a great complex with everything you would need close by, including a limited assortment of shops, restaurants, etc. Anything outside of those things requires driving 15 minutes at a minimum.

Convenient and safe! <1 min walk to restaurants & groceries

I have a quiet condo building footsteps away from Weaver St. Market and Town Hall Grill! Love it here. Only leaving to move in with boyfriend--my 1 BR/1.5 is super spacious, but not quite enough for 2. Kitchen small, but LR and BR ginormous. Nice outdoor patio. Loved the safe neighborhood and <8 min drive to downtown. In pre-8am class traffic, I could leave 10 min later than the Alta Spring contingent :) Additionally, the trails and adjacent parks are great for running. Southern Village is a lesser-known gem, but it's worth it. A handful of other classmates also live there, but I think more should continue the trend! Great bus system for internationals w/o cars.

Best hidden gem in Chapel Hill

The apartment complex is in a mixed living community and planned around a central "downtown" area that includes great restaurants and an independent movie theater. The theater holds outdoor movies on a large lawn in the center of the complex during the summer and is by far one of the best community activities around. It is also located near a running trail (Fan Branch Trail) that takes you directly to Merrits. Overall, I highly recommend the apartments at Southern Village.

Getting around Southern Village

Southern Village Reviews

8 reviews
Southern Village is great with a handful of shops and restaurants walkable from my apartment. We just got an ABC store!
Really great neighborhood. Scroggs Elementary School is great for kids. The community has a lot of activities on the green in addition to the great dining options nearby.
Great neighborhood. Lots of fine restaurants, great security, a kids-friendly environment, etc.
Lots of room to move. Walking distance to anything you would ever need and a trail nearby !
There is some noise from neighborhood entertainment that you can hear, nothing too loud. Not distracting to me and doesn't occur late at night. Minor pest problems are from roaches only, but we do have pest control come out and it's included in the fees we already pay, no extra cost. There is a tiny gym, about average to most complexes. I walk to the business building from the bus stop, as I take public transit since it is free, and it takes <40 to get to class (total).
Lots of stores, gym in neighborhood, church, groceries--basically a little town. Con is that it almost feels a bit "Pleasantville." That said, the Walmart up the road (<2 min) is wonderful as is Fig & Honey and the huge Harris Teeter (<5 min away) in Chatham county. Families and children amidst Med School students and retirees. Great feeling, awesome convenience to UNC and downtown CH. Highly recommend.
Mostly graduate students, young professionals, and young families. Very safe, clean, quiet, lots of green spaces including the Southern Village Community Park which has basketball courts, tennis courts, large fields, and a 6mi running loop.
Great neighborhood with some shops, restaurants, and a park. If you want anything outside of that limited selection, it takes 15 minutes in the car to get to anything else.
