Bigger for cheaper
If you're planning on living with a plus one or others, I think this complex is a great choice. It's only a 10-12 minute drive from the Secchia Center and is much cheaper for a much large space than anywhere I could find downtown! They have a large selection of floor plans to choose from; the one we chose is spacious (1,153 Sq. Ft 2 bed/2 bath) with tons of natural sunlight from huge windows. You can choose to add on an attached garage, detached garage, and/or storage unit. The complex is also super pet friendly and has its own fenced-in dog park. Other pros include a heated pool and hot tub. We're also right next-door to a Meijer, Aldi, movie theater, and a bunch of other businesses/restaurants. The biggest con is that this place does not have elevators, only stairs.
1 br townhouse 20-min bus ride from campus
Little bit further from campus, but easily accessible by bus (free w/ M Card). Really good value for the price. Management has been consistently friendly and helpful. Lots of space, tons of parking available on-site.
Great complex, solid value for med students
Meridian at Grandview has been a good place to live during medical school overall. The units are modern with good natural light and storage, and it is usually quiet enough inside to study. The distance to the med school is about as far as feels reasonable to walk, but the 22 and 31 bus lines and biking make commuting easy.
Amenities are mixed. The gym is fine for basic cardio but not great if you want a proper, well-equipped gym, and the pool is a nice bonus in warmer months. Maintenance has been very quick and reliable, but management can be hit or miss and often slow to respond to questions or emails.
Neighbor noise has not been an issue for me, but dogs barking in the courtyard can be frequent and sometimes annoying.
⚠️ Warning: South-facing units are a ☀️🔥 sauna 🔥☀️ and management isn’t transparent.

We were specifically told we'd have independent temperature control — our top priority when signing — but management quietly shut off the building AC for the season without notifying tenants. Even with outside temps in the 30s & 40s and windows open, our south-facing apartment reached 82 degrees during the day and stayed at 76 degrees overnight.
When we requested an early lease termination due to a medical condition that makes me sensitive to heat, management refused, falsely stating that allowing it would be discrimination against other tenants. They also refused any cost assistance to transfer units, despite the high cost and effort of having to move again.
Even with a portable AC and windows open, the temperature never drops below 74 degrees and still climbs to 80 degrees daily. It’s made working from home impossible and sleeping uncomfortable.
If temperature control or transparency matters to you, think twice before signing here, particularly for south-facing units.
The Row on Merchant/ Townhouse
I’ve lived at The Row on Merchant Townhomes for about two and a half years, during which there’s been at least one management change. Overall, my experience has been mixed. The location offers a quiet environment and decent space, but the quality of construction inside the unit feels somewhat rushed and cheaply done — both in terms of materials and workmanship.
While maintenance has generally been responsive, there was one notable instance where our washer broke and it took nearly three months to have it repaired, which was inconvenient. Additionally, considering the limited amenities offered, the distance from campus, and the overall build quality, I believe the rent is overpriced by roughly $300 per month compared to similar options in the area.
In short, it’s been a livable experience, but not one that fully matches the value or expectations for the price point.
Great Location w/ Great People
Have really enjoyed my time at Hoover + Greene so far mostly due to the location, people and amazing apartment. There are some things the property management company could do to make this building perfect but overall it is a really great place.
Very nice apartment!
Brookstone Crossing is a 10 minute drive to campus and is very secure. The complex is always upheld and the units are updated. The only issue is that communication with the main office was lacking while I was moving in, however they were changing parent companies during that time.
121 Larchmere Review
I have been very please with the property. It is well kept, property managers are extremely helpful and timely, and the apartments have a spacious layout. The kitchen has tons of storage, my bedroom holds: queen bed, tall/large dresser, two nightstands, and a desk. I have a very large closet and large personal bathroom.
The pricing could get a little steep. Parking (gated +$125/month or ungated lot +$110/month), gas, water, trash (+$15/month), and electric are all separate fees.
There are also lots of amenities: pet washing station, large package room, night parking lot security, key fab building security, gated dog area, gym, etc.
It is a super quick drive to the school every morning (about 4-10 min depending on traffic) and there are some restaurants along the street, with many other shopping centers in the vicinity.
New management is still trying to figure it out
My first 7ish months here were great until new management came in. Lots of things in the community have since broken and take several months to get fixed. Overall, I am still happy with my until and the resident event they host, but wish it did not take so long for them to fix broken things in the community.
Great place so far!
I have enjoyed living here because it is about a 18 minute walk from Meiling and I am also able to take the COTA bus if needed. The workers are friendly and accommodating for any needs we have had so far. I have only lived here for about a 2 months though. They have two pools, a gym (some machines are broken), and a nice community space. I didn't give it a 10 because the security that they promise (two gates that are sensor activated or opened with a passcode, are sometimes wide open. The walking gates require a key fob to open as well and they are sometimes left wide open.) is not always up to tea.
Good Spot
I like where I am at. The buses take me directly to campus, so I do not need to worry about parking. It is expensive, but I have access to coffee and gym/sauna 24/7. Law school is busy, so prioritizing a comfortable living situation is important. It is worth the price.
HHT
I absolutely love living at HHT. I live alone with my dog and this building has been the perfect place for us. Right next to my building is Highland Park which is a 300 acre park. I did not want to live somewhere where my dog would have to pee on the sidewalks. Instead, my dog has 300 acres of surrounding open land where we walk daily. HHT has some of the biggest floor plans in Pittsburgh and the floor to ceiling windows offer an enormous amount of sunlight and are beyond breathtaking. I live in a one bedroom and one bathroom apartment that is beyond spacious. My apartment also has an in unit washer and dryer which was imperative. 71A and 71B are the two bus options you have to take to Pitt Law everyday. The bus stop is right outside of HHT and we are the first stop to be picked up on the route and last to be dropped off, but it is not a long ride. The community at HHT is very very close knit. I have so many friends that live in the building and the property manager, Tena, is amazing! One of my favorite memories of HHT so far is having our annual "Doggy Dip Day" which is the day before the pool gets closed for the year, all residents are allowed to bring their dogs down to swim!
Hoover + Greene Review
Expensive but worth it.
Great place to live if you're looking for apartment near campus + downtown
Hoover and Greene is the best apartment complex in A2. It is pricy for a 1Bed/1Bath, but the other options near campus are not much cheaper (maybe $100 /mo less). The amenities are great, leasing office is friendly, they have monthly events, location is perfect, and the apartment layouts are nice.
The biggest expense is parking which is over $200/mo so if you don't have a car, it really helps
Property Review
Cheap cabinets and cheaply built apartments, quite neighborhood and decent amenities, management company is incompetent, good for 1-2 year temporary residence but not long term.
