1001 S State Street - great value in the South Loop

Apartment mostly consists of late-20s and early 30 year olds (mix of couples and singles) living here so apartment complex is quiet. A 7 minute walk to the Museum Campus/11 Street Metra stop. Two blocks from Trader Joe's on Roosevelt. Great pool and gym in the building. Three blocks from the UChicago Campus Connector bus when you don't feel like taking the metra.

Recommend

If you are living with a partner, I highly recommend living in south loop! It was important to me to still invest in my relationship and I felt being situated in the city helps. My partner has no ties to UChicago or Hyde Park, so I didn't want to have us living in a small town that would only benefit me. It was still critical that we chose a south loop building that was close to transportation for school. I am two blocks from the (free) shuttle stop to school which takes 15-20 minutes. We are also close to Roosevelt station that can get us around to other parts of the city!

Overall good apartement but relatively expensive

Overall, I would recommend the 1001 S State building to other students with the following caveats:

1) it is quite far from campus, so that it will be harder to socialize with other students.

2) it is quite expensive.

Great location and amenities - a bit secluded from the MPP social scene

Overall, I really love 1001 S State. It is located very conveniently near a Trader Joe's, the Roosevelt L Train Station, and a Metra Station. Commute to Harper Center campus takes 20 - 25 minutes on the L Train or 30 - 35 on the University of Chicago Hospital Express Bus (192 - from Roosevelt Station).

The building is very new with a modern design, full gym, two floors for studying, and extremely friendly and responsive staff. All apartments have at least one wall that is a floor/ceiling window with gorgeous views of either the city or the lake.

The biggest draw back is the distance from MPP/Mila where the majority of Booth students will stay. It will take extra effort to Uber/Lyft to social events, etc.

In terms of rent, you will likely be paying somewhere between MPP and Mila.

1001 S. State

I love this building. I was looking for a studio in South Loop and there are three different layouts. Big fan of the floor to ceiling windows and the building amenities made it worth it to me. Excellent outdoor pool with hot tub and TVs, game room, free printing, gym, etc. Also, the staff and management are super friendly and it is very close to the 2 and 6 buses in order to get down to Hyde Park quickly.

Awesome Place to Live

I absolutely love living here. My studio is huge, and the kitchen and bathroom are beautiful and modern. I also love my in-unit laundry! The amenities (pool/hot tub, fitness room, rooftop lounge) are all amazing and well thought-out. My apartment has become the go-to hangout spot for my friends because they all love coming over! Management also does a great job of hosting fun events, such as wine nights, cooking classes, and free fitness classes. I also have a dog and it's a very dog-friendly building and neighborhood. We are next to a pet store and animal hospital, and close to many dog parks. The neighborhood in general is really convenient as well -- we are close to the Roosevelt CTA stop, Target, Trader Joe's, Jewel Osco, Walgreens, and more. I can't say enough good things about 1001 South State!
