Foggy Bottom Housing close to GWUH / GWU

Living at Claridge House Cooperative offers a unique blend of convenience and charm, especially for those working in the Foggy Bottom area or attending George Washington University Hospital. The location is undeniably one of its strongest selling points, making commuting a breeze. Being just a short distance from such a prominent workplace is a real asset, particularly for healthcare professionals or students.

However, it's essential to consider the building's age, which brings both character and challenges. While many residents appreciate the vintage feel, it's evident that some areas could use a little TLC. The gym, for example, is quite dated and may not meet the expectations of fitness enthusiasts looking for modern equipment. Additionally, the units can vary significantly; while some have been updated, others still reflect the building's age and may feel a bit worn.

Another concern is the lack of on-site parking, which can be inconvenient for those with cars. The shared laundry facilities also require some patience, as they can get busy at peak times. Additionally, studio apartments don’t include dishwashers, which is a drawback for those who value the convenience of modern appliances.

Despite these downsides, Claridge House offers great value for its price, particularly given its prime location near such essential amenities. The ongoing updates and repairs signal that the management is invested in improving the living experience for residents, which is encouraging.

In summary, if you're looking for an affordable option close to work or school in a vibrant area like Foggy Bottom, Claridge House Cooperative can be a great fit. Just be prepared to navigate some of its quirks along the way!

Fine for the price

It has had a mice problem for years and has made no progress in fixing it. Some staff are great, but I've had too many poor experiences with maintenance being dismissive and/or making poor fixes.
most of the 2BR units are very small - my roommate and I got lucky. It's a cooperative, so your experience will depend on your landlord. I love my space and the location, but I don't know if I'll be staying another year

Maybe a stand out among the other big complexes!

The apartment is undergoing lots of renovation this year, which can be an inconvenience but only temporary. For some reason, this has led to lots of water shut offs, which is probably the biggest issue. I really enjoy the communal spaces here! There is a TV room and an outdoor patio. I think the rent is expensive but on par with the neighborhood. I like that every unit has their own landlord which is a big plus because you have the management team and an individual person to talk to. I like that things also pop up for sale here. And of course you still get the character and charm of the foggy bottom historic district even in a big building like this. A more diverse crowd than just students.

Claridge House

24 hour concierge and amenities are great. Quality of space and appliances depends on who owns the apartment but the building overall provides a comfortable environment with reliable management and services.

Great proximity

I've been living here over a year. The things that I like the most is the close proximity to the school, Foggy Bottom metro station, several bus stops, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market. It's the location, location, and location. However, I had a several noisy neighbors, and I could hear play them music, and party on some nights.

Claridge House

I am new to the DC area and was hoping to find a place to live close to GW Hospital. I was struggling to find a 1 bedroom that was both nice and affordable. Claridge house is nice because utilities are included. I just have to pay for Wi-Fi. The 24/7 front desk is convenient for me to stop by and get help/packages at any time of day. In the north building there is laundry on every floor. So far I have not had any issues with laundry availability. My one complaint is the large washers and dryers in the basement are more expensive ($3 a load). Very close by to the metro, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. A lot of college/grad students live here but I haven’t had issues with noise

Great apartment!

The building is really great, albeit slightly expensive. The community room, the pool, the gym, and other amenities make the experience even better. The management is really quick with any issues that may arise and almost always have someone from maintenance around of for urgent issues. The front desk staff is lovely and I definitely feel safe and secure here.

Close to the Foggy Bottom station

Spacious, kind management personnel, and close to the GW. Mice and noise problems if you are unlucky.

Good place, pick a good unit!

Each apartment unit is different, but my unit is great for the rent I'm paying. It's a 1 bed plus a den converted room, so it could be better, but there are some units available with better 2 bedroom floor plans.

Foggy Bottom Reviews

Lots of pretty row homes, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, and my school. Lots of trees and a dog park near-by. Overall, very pretty and scenic to walk through, and also close to other neighborhoods and essential stores.
I like living in Foggy, it's easy to get to school but also is close to Georgetown, which is fun for food and shopping. The northern part of Foggy (near GW) is about 10 minute walk to Dupont too, which is great.
Short walk to Georgetown, West End, and Dupont Circle. Many restaurants nearby and close to metro so you can get to anywhere in the city conveniently.
Nice to be so close to school. Short walk from the mall and other tourist destinations. Bar/restaurant/night life scene leaves a lot to be desired.
It is really close to campus so a lot of GW folks live here! You can reach a lot of places on public transit.
Edge of Foggy Bottom bordering Georgetown - very safe and peaceful!
I personally enjoy the quietness of the neighborhood and its location within a close walking distance of campus, Georgetown, the water, and convenience/grocery stores. The neighborhood is also very safe, I am a woman in my early 20's and I have never felt unsafe walking home late at night near my apartment.
Foggy Bottom is a great place to live given the proximity to the law school. It's also within walking distance of Georgetown and Dupont Circle which are fun places to go out with friends and classmates. It's also has lots of bike racks for the Capital Bikeshare nearby, and the Foggy Bottom metro stop is a few blocks up the street.
