No Frills But Comfortable

All the apartments are different levels because they are condos. But all seem to have lots of closet space and large windows. I have found myself either getting too hot or cold and I don't have control over it (even though there is a thermostat in the apartment). Overall, management is nice, apartments are decent, and the building is close to the campus, just don't expect any other extra frills.

Letterman Review

This apartment is a condominium so I rent from the person who owns the apartment not the manager. Parking was an additional cost and my lease said no pets. That being said, I have seen pets in the building. You have to pay monthly for parking. However, it is in a great location, especially for students at GW. The building itself is quiet, though there are some frats across the street and undergraduate dorms around it. It has all the noise of a typical city. The apartment was spacious and priced well given the location. My landlord has been great about responding to things in the apartment. There is no gym. I had ants for about a month this year, but I haven’t had anything other than that.

Spacious Apartment Close to School - Old Building

I have overall really enjoyed my experience in the Letterman. The apartment is huge for a D.C. apartment, we get lots of light, and we are only about 5 minute walk from the law school. Overall it is great for a student apartment. The one downside is that the building has been dealing with leaky pipes, so we intermittently end up with water damage on the walls. The building management fixes it each time mostly efficiently, but the leaks can still be a bit annoying.

Great Place

Great place for law students. Quiet building, though the F street side is across the street from some fraternities and a common walkway for undergraduates. Even then, still stays pretty quiet at night. The building is clean and secure and pretty spacious given the price.

Very Convenient for Law School

I love living here for law school. Being only 2 blocks from the law school, it's extremely easy for me to travel for classes or back home for lunch.

Furthermore, Viktor is an amazing building manager, I have had nothing but positive experiences with him.

My main issue with the building is that the units can be slightly dated and that my studio has a very small kitchen.

Average Place to Live

Letterman House is fine. My apartment has been updated a little so the kitchen is pretty nice with a stainless steel gas stove/oven and granite countertops with nicer ikea cabinets. Otherwise its your standard studio. Its not very big, but it does the job. Management has been very responsive whenever there is an issue in the building/my apartment. Rent is not too bad for its location. It doesn't really have any extra amenities (there is technically roof access but its tiny and has no furniture, parking you have to pay extra, and who even knows what is happening with the teeny little pool out back). Nothing about the building wows me, but its a fine place to live.

Letterman House is a good option for students

Have been living at Letterman since moving to DC for law school. Location is excellent, price is fair for the area, and the building is nice. More amenities could be added (pool wasn't open all year, no gym.) But overall I'm satisfied. Would recommend for other GW students.

Letterman House Review

Pros: can't beat the location. I can leave 10 minutes before class starts. I'm on the 9th floor and the view is pretty cool. Upon moving in, the apartment was clean and everything worked the way it was supposed to. I haven't had any issues with management, Viktor is great. The property is maintained well, a cleaning crew comes through a few times a week to clean the common areas. As a woman, I have never felt unsafe here. It's also only a 10-15 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom metro. No pest problems.

Cons: thin walls makes it so you can hear neighbors pretty well even if they aren't being loud. The draft that comes in from the hallway means you can smell whatever your neighbor is cooking. No washer/dryer in unit but there are some in the basement. Management keeps normal business hours (not open 24/7 like some other complexes in the area), which means you're out of luck for receiving packages after 6 pm. Before signing a lease, I was told windows would be replaced in a month or two. It's been almost five months and we haven't heard anything about the windows (might not be an issue for everyone but one of my windows is super foggy).

Overall good quality and value

Decently sized studio with great location in the heart of Foggy Bottom near the law school. Management is responsive and helpful in solving problems, although the actual apartment owners are primarily responsible for most in-apartment issues but may not be the most accessible.

Love this area, right near Logan Circle and 14th street which has so much good food and nightlife!
Amazing neighborhood. Close to GW and close to so much good food and nice restaurants.
Sometimes noisy, but the front desk quickly deal with it if you ask
Great, Safe neighborhood with great food and close to campus.
Foggy Bottom/West End are great for 1Ls -- you will get to know the area around school and you will be conveniently within a few blocks of GW. There are a lot of food options, but night life is lacking (though you're a short walk to DuPont and Georgetown). There are plenty of busses and metros around.
Good only in the sense that it is near the school, that you can receive warnings from the school and D.C. (if signing up), that you can be assured of safety generally even if coming in late due to pulling off night studies in the library. However, noise levels are high, so you can hardly study indoors at home because of people wanting to earn money in exchange for their loud and terrible performances. This means that you may ultimately end up outside for work or rest during morning/afternoon. Noise in the evening can be high too due to some people having gone drunk. Noise (some loud trucks and mostly machine sounds) and lights can be too much for sleeping deeply.
It's really only convenient because of how close the law school is. Otherwise, I would not live here. Definitely a business/corporate area that shuts down on the weekends. Not a lot of options for going out to eat unless it's either overpriced or fast food. The only grocery store that's walking distance is Whole Foods, which I personally hate shopping at.
The Aston is the furthest GW housing from the campus, so we had to walk more than any other student to get to class. We are also the furthest away from any Metro station, but still not considerably far when you look at the big picture. There are grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby which is a perk, but it is pretty noisy around here. But I guess that's anywhere in Downtown DC. There are always cars honking, ambulance sirens, etc. But the area seems pretty safe.
