Decent but expensive

The building is a condo building so I don’t have a company as a landlord which is nice. I like the layout of the apartment but it is very very dark all day. The price is quite high.

Lucky

I got extremely lucky with the location, rent, and property manager. I am definitely on the lower side considering where I live and I have a property manager who is extremely helpful with any issues I might have in the unit.

Swarthmore Apartments

All in all, I can't complain about living at The Swarthmore. It's a bit of a longer walk from the law school building (a little shorter than a mile each way), but it's nice to get in those extra steps before sitting all day in classes and the library. It's nice on the weekend though, because you're right at the connecting point of Foggy Bottom and Georgetown, so you can stroll into Georgetown within 5 minutes.

PROS:
- It's a very, very quiet building -- no loud neighbors or parties really ever.
- It's 500 steps away from Trader Joes.
- Lots of natural sunlight if you get an apartment facing 25th ST.
- Decently priced at $2200 for a 700 sq. ft. 1BD/1BA.
- Hardwood floors.
- Individual storage units in the basement.
- Rooftop view of the Washington Monument and Key Bridge.

CONS:
- It's a bit of a walk to the law school.
- Washer and dryer are communal in the basement.
- Thin walls so you can hear your neighbors talking/hear their TVs.
- No amenities, at all.
- No pets allowed.

Swarthmore rental condo

Renting in the swarthmore is alright. No electric included, and the quality of your space depends entirely on how much the owner invests in it. Some good some bad. Personally, my owner has NOT renovated the apartment recently, so paying over $1500 compared to some other apartments in the area feels like robbery.

Older, but Great Building

While the building is older, the staff is great, my rent is affordable and my individual unit is renovated and lovely. Each unit has different landlords because it is a condo building. My landlord is awesome. The building manager is fantastic and great to work with. I think my rent is reasonable especially for the location. I would reccomend the Swarthmore for sure.

Amazing location. Building is older, but well kept. I plan to stay until I graduate.

West End Reviews

West End is fine. It's safe, there's easy access to transportation and plenty of supermarkets. But it's boring as anything - a neighborhood of hotels and office buildings. It's also overly pricey without really giving you much in return. As someone who had to move to DC on short notice - I picked West End based on location and little else - and I mostly came out of my time living here wishing I had done more research before signing my lease.
Safe neighborhood, great transportation hub with multiple bus stops less than a minute's walk from the apartment and a 5 minute walk to the metro. Some restaurants and bars nearby as well. Ten minute (at most!) walk to GW campus! My only gripe is that it's an expensive neighborhood but the apartment is competitively priced for the area.
The neighborhood is perfect. Ten minute walk to school, five minute walk to the metro. CVS and Walgreens just ten minutes away, trader joes just 3 minutes away, Whole Foods ten minutes away. There is a bus stop with a bunch of bus routes directly in front of the building. This neighborhood is also close to a bunch of other great neighborhoods, just a 20 minute walk to DuPont Circle and Georgetown where there are restaurants, bars, and stores. The monuments (the Lincoln) are only a 25 minute walk down 23rd street. There are numerous gyms nearby and the school gym is only a ten minute walk from the apartment. The area is probably the safest in the city and there is not a lot of noise over the normal city noise. It is next to the GW Hospital so ambulances going by can be annoying but not overly so. This neighborhood is great and close to every amenity.
I like the west end library and the l Trader Joe’s but other than that it is a little quiet and mostly filled with hotels. There aren’t very many food options either. It’s a close walk to Georgetown which is nice.
This neighborhood has everything a millennial needs - a CVS, Soulcycle, Sweetgreen, and great bars/restaurants. Highly recommend because it's quiet and really close to DuPont Circle and the GW Metro.
ONE BLOCK FROM TRADER JOES!! 5 min to Georgetown, 10 min to Dupont, 8 minute bike ride to campus. Bars & restaurants. Across the street from the dog park.
Hard to beat the Foggy Bottom area. Safe and close to everything you would need to be productive and have a great med school experience.
Some of the neighbors are great. It gets pretty dead very early here. There have been a few instances of intruders in the building.
