No frills but good value and amazing location

This building is old (but rent controlled as a result) and the units have been kept up well. There are only 25 units (all one bedrooms) and there is a mix of students and professionals in the building. Every unit has a combo washer/dryer in it which is great, and there is absolutely always street parking since it’s on a dead end—which also makes it super quiet. It’s definitely dated but worth it for the location and price

Colonial Arms

Lots of natural light, street parking, hard wood floors. Spacious closets, and large bedroom. Garbage disposal and dish washer. Gas stove and radiators. Responsive maintenance team. Elevator and pay laundry in the basement. Quiet and nice neighbors.

Building is old so more maintenance problems, but team is responsive. In-unit laundry not great. Do not control the heat so can get hot in fall and spring.

Great, Affordable Building

This is an excellent building to live in. It has a dishwasher and a combined washer/dryer for clothes. It is a little older building, so you can hear neighbors at times, but overall it is manageable.

Colonial Arms

I really like the surrounding area, very residential with a dog park and regular park across the street. 10 min from trader joes, 5 min from metro, 15 min from Whole Foods, and 15 min from George Washington Law School. I like the natural sunlight, hard wood floors, spacious closets, and that it is a smaller building. I dislike the in unit washer/dryer combo, it barely dries my clothes and often leaks. The management is very responsive to my concerns however.

Old but worth it

What can I say it’s an older building so it’s got its maintenance concerns every now and then... But you’ll never meet a friendlier or more responsive management team! The neighborhood is amazing, and parking is usually a hit or miss (which is good by city standards!) The dog park is a great addition for any pup owners too.

Good if you're looking for the basics

These are lovely and very large (850sq ft on average) one bed room apartments in a building filled with them. The kitchens are recently renovated and have new appliances and washer/dryer. That is where the good things end.

The management is unpleasant (especially the building manager Pat) - arbitrarily enforcing their rules and taking a while to fix things. And, they always increase the rent by the maximum allowable. My apartment started as a good deal - I'm now there because its a hassle to move and its not a bad deal yet.

You'll likely never know your neighbors, people mind their own business by and large. The building is mostly young professionals and GW students, there is a constant pot smell in the building hallways. The walls/floors/ceilings are super thin and so noise travels.

Move here if you want a reasonably priced large one bedroom and can deal with not super helpful management. Don't move here if you can't deal with hearing your neighbors.

Also - its a no dog building, but you can pay a cat fee.

Lots of pretty row homes, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, and my school. Lots of trees and a dog park near-by. Overall, very pretty and scenic to walk through, and also close to other neighborhoods and essential stores.
I like living in Foggy, it's easy to get to school but also is close to Georgetown, which is fun for food and shopping. The northern part of Foggy (near GW) is about 10 minute walk to Dupont too, which is great.
Short walk to Georgetown, West End, and Dupont Circle. Many restaurants nearby and close to metro so you can get to anywhere in the city conveniently.
Nice to be so close to school. Short walk from the mall and other tourist destinations. Bar/restaurant/night life scene leaves a lot to be desired.
It is really close to campus so a lot of GW folks live here! You can reach a lot of places on public transit.
Edge of Foggy Bottom bordering Georgetown - very safe and peaceful!
I personally enjoy the quietness of the neighborhood and its location within a close walking distance of campus, Georgetown, the water, and convenience/grocery stores. The neighborhood is also very safe, I am a woman in my early 20's and I have never felt unsafe walking home late at night near my apartment.
Foggy Bottom is a great place to live given the proximity to the law school. It's also within walking distance of Georgetown and Dupont Circle which are fun places to go out with friends and classmates. It's also has lots of bike racks for the Capital Bikeshare nearby, and the Foggy Bottom metro stop is a few blocks up the street.
