Convenient but expensive
The shuttle across the street will take you right to campus, which is incredibly convenient. The apartments are spacious, but have a dated look. The surrounding neighborhood doesn't have much to do, and you would need a car to get to larger grocery stores/restaurants. Management can be overly strict and fairly unresponsive, even with more urgent issues like building access.

Bristol West End
Bristol is the closest apartment building to the medical school, which is very convenient for getting to class or to the hospital early in the morning. There is also a shuttle that runs to the hospital every 5 minutes during peak hours, and every 15 minutes for the rest of the day. Bristol has a solid gym with weights and cardio equipment, and is only a 3 minute walk to the Vanderbilt gym. The pool area is very nice and has two gas barbecues for free use by residents. The management is fair, and has always been responsive in my experience. The apartments are all very modern and well maintained, and get lots of natural light. Many medical students across all years live at Bristol which is great for a sense of community. Furthermore, there are many residents and attendings who live at Bristol as well. Overall, Bristol has been a great place to live, and I plan to stay here for the duration of my time at Vanderbilt.

Pricey but convenient and fun
You're going to pay extra for rent because it is so close to campus, but Bristol is filled with med students and friends. There is a shuttle that takes you right to EBL (where we have class). Recommend living in BWE especially for first year.

Good fit for med student needs
Great location next to VUMC shuttle stop for fast access to campus, decent pool and gym access, and overall very well-maintained and clean. The property manager is relatively easy to reach, and enforces building policies strictly. Entry to the building requires an electronic card access system that must be installed on a smartphone for entry, and a fee is charged to you every time you migrate to a new phone. If you want to live close to other med students there's probably no better apartment complex--about a quarter of my class lives in this building.

Tried and true
Bristol is the go-to med student building for a reason. Short walking commute to the hospital is unbeatable. My 1-bedroom feels huge and has great closet space. Units facing 29th ave enjoy a great view of Vandy football stadium and the new gothic tower. Love the pool area and grills.

Great for med students
Very few complaints. Building is quiet, clean, and location is perfect (close to the gym, 15 minute walk to the hospital). Only complaint is that management can be strict about rules, but I never feel like they've ever tried to screw me over.

-Pool is great to hang out/study
-Gym is convenient to use, but also very close to Vanderbilt Rec Center
-Best location: 15 minute walk to school, and shuttle stop right across from building that goes straight to school/hospitals
-Management has steep fines for breaking rules
-Parking spot included for every tenant

Varies by owner
Excellent! Wonderful and responsive owner, less awesome building management, less fancy than some of the other apartments in the area but it's nice to have access to so many other people in the class. We've had some issues with electricity and pests to which management has been less than responsive, but our owner is very good so it works out.

Convenient, nice apartments but poor management
Close to campus (easy to walk + there is a free shuttle that leaves from the parking lot across the street) and the apartments are nice and spacious. There are many graduate and medical students that also live in this building. My only complaint is the terrible management -- the manager, Darleen, is not open to feedback and seeks out opportunities to fine residents. Notably, the minimum fine for any violations (trash, parking, pets, plants on balcony, etc.) is normally $250 and non-negotiable! Some maintenance repairs have taken many weeks to get fixed with little urgency demonstrated by management and no communication on updates on the request.

Great building, not great management
Great medical school community, comfortable apartment. We have had trouble with responsiveness of the on-site building manager.
