It's an Okay Apartment with a Great Location

This is a historic building that was once a hotel. The rest of the street was also hotels (including some very large ones), parking lots, and the park. But recently the parking structure nearby was knocked down and a mid-rise luxury condo went up. It's nice, and very pricey, and it made it clear that this little hovel's days are numbered. I suspect the property owners will hold on to this place until the right deal comes along, and that will be the end of it.

This place is OK

The location is great, the view is great, the apartment is fine, but there is a lot of noise from the el train and from a crazy neighbor.

Old Chicago

This place is like a slice of the Old South Loop, an old building with 1920s-charm. It's near to Buddy Guy's Legends and to massive parks, and even closer to every train line anyone could want. And the management is really great. It's hard to say anything bad about it.

Studios

The studios themselves are decent and everything is new and the building itself is clean. Just only management are untrustworthy. The website says the studios are $750, I get here to see it they say $850, then the day I go to pay the move in fee they say its $875. Then the fridge was broken which I wouldn't know until I tried to use it and they never reimburse me to fix THEIR fridge.

Also, when I wrote them a check to move in, I paid the whole first month and they kept saying "its not clear, its not clear" I call my bank and it had. but they still lied. I ended up calling their financial people and had them fax me a letter that it actually cleared TWO weeks ago. Then not even coming up with an excuse they said they would not refund me the two weeks because they were holding the apartment and also they increased my rent because when I leave they have to advertise the apartment. Which they do through craigslist so it was an excuse to get more money.

I had no choice to live there because I literally had no where else to go, or anywhere else to live and I already gave them money when they started screwing me over so I lived here.. Even when they screwed me another $135 with the fridge.

So it wouldn't hurt to live else where, you are not missing anything here, and you could for sure get a place bigger and with more features (this has none) for $875.

South Loop Reviews

As a single woman it was very important for me to live in an area that was safe given that the medical school schedule will require me to come home at night. Also it gives me great peace of mind to live in a building with doormen 24/7 in case anything were to happen. However, this has come at at a great cost.
Quite a number of nice bars and restaurants within walking distance. Groceries also (Target, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods about 15 minutes by foot; small local shop about 3 mins). Bus stop to go to the university about 10 mins away (number 2, Hyde Park Express).
I really like South Loop. It is definitely an older crowd (young 30s and up) which suited me better - it has families and schools but still feels close to downtown which I really enjoy. Lots going on close by and lots of grocery stores too.
South Loop is quieter than the Loop, but you will get more space. Ideal for parents, people with partners that work remotely, or people looking for more space for their money. Outside of Bears games, has far fewer tourists to deal with than the Loop.
Across Michigan Ave from Grant Park. 10-minute walk from the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field.
Roosevelt station is very close by and incredibly convenient if you don't mind taking the train or buses, but it is a transit hub, so expect increased numbers and variety of people.
Not far from the rest of the Loop, and you can still easily make your way north for study groups and social events.
I literally love living in the south loop. I can walk practically anywhere
less of a tourist trap than streeterville, still downtown atmosphere. There's a cozy little neighborhood full of townhouses that's nice for a walk.
Pros: Central to all major forms of transport, proximity to downtown, museums, and activities

Cons: Proximity to all major inbound train tracks increases the noise level. Proximity to Roosevelt Road which is high-traffic, treeless, and not bike-friendly.
It's a fine location. Not great, not horrible. I like a lot of other neighborhoods better but this is closer to school.
