Nice apartment, bad management
Being so close to the law school is extremely convenient, and Ivy is one of the most affordable options within walking distance. The apartments are large, and I've enjoyed living there for the most part. However, management is rude, and they will not go out of their way to assist you. All of my interactions with them have been unpleasant. Additionally, you pay for every utility except for trash and the apartment is unfurnished, so the cost ends up being somewhat comparable to other apartments nearby. Many of the applicances are outdated, and the insulation is so terrible that you pretty much have to have heating/cooling on constantly to keep the apartment at the temperature you want. Laundry is $2 per load, and it feels a little silly (and gross) to have to take my laundry to a communal laundry room as an adult grad student. The walls are also terribly thin - I can often hear clear conversations or babies crying from my neighbors' apartments. Not great as a light sleeper. Personally, I value being able to walk to school so highly that I don't think I would choose a different apartment if I could make the choice again. But if you don't mind driving to class, I would 100% find a better apartment. There are so many within a 15-20 minute radius of North Grounds!

Great Place for Students
I have had a mainly positive experience at Ivy Garden. It is usually pretty quiet, but it is also close enough to the law school that I can walk to class if I want. The pools are always great when they are open. The maintenance workers are incredibly kind, and everything gets fixed incredibly fast!
The only downside to the apartment is that there is no in-unit washer and dryer. The laundry rooms can get kind of gross, and some don't really use A/C, so the rooms get hot and steamy.

Great place to live!
I would highly recommend living at Ivy Gardens! The common areas are nicely maintained. The maintenance crew is very attentive and helpful. Some of the units are older and could use some renovating, but overall it is a quiet and comfortable place to live.

Great location, rent is reasonable, management/maintenance can be rude

Not worth it for the rent.
Compared to other apartments available for a similar price in the area, this apartment is extremely outdated and overpriced for what it is. My kitchen and bathroom are old and kind of gross, with obvious signs of accumulated wear. The carpets are very old, and while they are cleaned before move-in, mine were never dried properly resulting in an apartment that smells damp and musty. The walls are thin, especially in the ceiling, I can often here exactly what my neighbors are up to or their conversations word for word. Be wary of living in a first floor apartment, because since the complex offers no tours you may end up in a basement apartment with absolutely no light. Also, the images on their website are of very few select models, not what an average apartment in this complex looks like (very outdated). Finally, my rent is being raised after this year (meaning I will not be renewing my lease) for absolutely no improvements to the apartment or complex as a whole.
There are plenty of other apartments available for $100-200 more a month, and while that can add up over a year, I would recommend doing research before signing a lease here. They are able to charge this much because you are able to walk to Darden and UVA Law, but do not be fooled, you are paying for the location and not the apartment.

Good value for price
Ivy Gardens is an older style apartment complex with limited amenities. For a bit extra, you can opt for an "upgraded" unit which includes new appliances and vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms. However, every unit is fully carpeted for better or worse. The worst part about living here is the lack of in unit laundry and paid laundry rooms charging $2 a load. Overall, lots of square footage for the price. Also they say no pets, but there's no enforcement.

Review
Nice apartment, mostly modern appliances. Also very close to the Law School and it's quite cheap (if you have a roommate).
