Ivy Gardens – Best of the Law School Housing Options
If you're going to live near the school, Ivy is the best bang for your buck. The only downside is it's far from Harris Teeter and the walk to Food of All Nations takes you under a narrow bridge. Still, it's very doable, and the bus stop right outside the complex takes you to Harris Teeter in five minutes.
Food of All Nations is slightly pricier than Harris Teeter, but the difference in grocery price is more than made up for by the cost of apartments near HT.
Management is generally responsive, particularly to maintenance concerns, but they're rigid and inflexible about certain fees that they tack on, so be alert for those.

pretty good!
I like it a lot better than pav (which was same price w a random roomate). I get the whole apartment and a den. Closer to the gym, much larger, and quieter. I like it a lot more

Great value
Cheap and close to the school, only downside is no in-unit laundry.

Good apartment (not bad, not great)
Ivy is a nice community with responsive management. The floors and ceilings are very thin but the walls are fine (meaning you can hear your upstairs and downstairs neighbors well but not your roommate). You can only park on your side of the neighborhood which they don't tell you in the lease (makes walking to the law school 5-10 minutes longer). Rooms and carpets are semi-old but the appliances can be new depending on what you rent. Your bathroom may smell slightly of mold but it is what it is.

Okay for the Price
The price point and proximity to the law school were the most important factors to me, and my apartment at Ivy Gardens met those goals. However, the apartment I got for my desired price point was basically underground and unrenovated. It didn't bother me too much, but I missed having access to sunshine. Some might have issues with the quality of the cheaper units. There were some mold issues, and the corners were a little dingy, but it was also spacious and had everything I needed. If your priorities are proximity to the law school and price, Ivy Gardens is a good choice. The major challenges were (1) not having a car, because it isn't quite close enough to the grocery stores to walk and carry groceries back, and (2) the condition of the cheapest, unrenovated units. I will say, they did not give me a hassle with my security deposit, and the management team was easy to work with/get a hold of (in my experience). I will also note that the proximity to the law school differs greatly depending on which unit you're in. I got one of the closer ones, but some others were much further.

It's nice here
Ivy is very middle of the road, decent housing. They are older buildings that are updated inside. Maintenance is great, the front office is the typical kind of annoying but not too bad type. I've never had any real problems with my apartments (I have rented two here). It is very easy to hear upstairs neighbors though. The pools are nice, the gym and laundry rooms are always clean. The yearly rent increases are annoying but standard for an apartment. Despite not allowing pets, this place is absolutely crawling with dogs. Get a unit in the back half of a building, they have more space for the same price, and usually more light.

Nice apartment, mostly modern appliances. Also very close to the Law School and it's quite cheap (if you have a roommate).
