Generally fine, especially for those commuting by car
The distance to campus is about 10-15min driving. And there is a bus stop close to the complex for CTA 201.
Pros:
- Quiet and convenient neighborhood. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, stores, etc., including some local businesses, especially near the intersection between Chicago Ave and Main St. There are stations for Purple Line and Metra trains.
- Responsive maintenance (always within 24h during workdays). It's easy to open tickets on the online portal.
- Dedicated parking lots and garages
- Room space is good.
- Fair price
Cons:
- The building is old. I have experienced a ceiling fall in the bathroom (fortunately, I was not using it). It also indicates you may experience pest issues (although they have partnered with a specialist team that visits every few weeks).
- There is a mental health clinic across the street. Sometimes, several people yell or behave somehow aggressively. But most people are nice. I never feel safety threatened.
- The heaters are centrally controlled and rely on sensors placed in specific locations in the building, which sometimes cannot sensitively and accurately maintain the temperature in the winter.
