Crystal City

Quiet on the Weekends but Very Clean and Safe
Crystal City offers its residents with both an urban and suburban feel. Among the massive skyscrapers and glass buildings, there are blocks of quiet residential area surrounded by greenery and great places for a morning jog. Hamburger Hamlet, Cafe Pizzaiolo or Urban Thai are just some of the neighborhood's popular restaurants to enjoy some great food after work hours. Crystal City also holds several events such as the summer concert series or afternoon book discussions.

Reviewers write that it's quiet on the weekends due to the large amount of commercial buildings that populate the area. However, it's close enough to Alexandria and Pentagon City where you can find great spots to go out.

Crystal City — 8.3/10 Rating (based on 30 neighborhood reviews)
Crystal City has been a convenient place to live because I work there. However, it is not the most accessible to AU. I leave work early, but I don't have enough time to metro there, so I have to take an Uber from work, but it's manageable because I only go to campus twice a week. Although that's a little inconvenient, the area is very safe for a woman living alone, and it's very easy to get to downtown DC. There are many restaurants and grocery stores nearby, as well as the Pentagon City mall, which is within walking distance. My only complaint is that there is a lot of construction.

Extremely safe and friendly neighborhood. I have gotten very involved in my local Catholic church that is right down the street. You can instantly tell the difference when you leave DC that your environment has changed. The people are friendly, you are not scared that you will get robbed, and there are no signs of blight. I would highly recommend the area.

Overall, Crystal City is a great place to live, and often overlooked when compared to Pentagon City. This is a pretty suburban area, with a mix of homes and apartment complexes. There are tons of restaurants nearby, and it's enjoyable since they're mostly walking distance. Added perk - Arlington Public Library tucked into the neighborhood between the main Crystal City area and surrounding Pentagon City area.

This part of Crystal City is fairly good. Tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and right on Rt 1 so everything is accessible. I don't think it is a very walkable location, but if you have a car or at least a bicycle everything is definitely close. 23rd street crystal city restaurants are just under a mile away, so a bit far to walk regularly but still fairly close. On the other side, going towards Alexandria there is a lot of food and shopping options about a mile south.

The neighborhood itself is beautiful. Brand new parks with sculptures and walking paths everywhere. If you walk a bit more towards potomac ave, there is a playground as well as tennis and basketball courts. People are always outside enjoying the parks and recreation. The closest metro line is at the airport (~20 min walk), although there is another metro stop under construction at the moment that would be even closer.

There is a grocery store in Pentagon City and it is open 24 hours. It is a very nice location and feels extremely safe. There are plenty of places to eat around Crystal City (ranging from Chick-fil-a/Chipotle to expensive steakhouses). Also Pentagon City has a extremely large mall, and a Costco as well.

Lots of food options, but kind of a dead area on weekends, and it is all high-rises (so many office buildings) in the main area. But close to both Pentagon City and Alexandria (Old Town), and the upcoming Potomac Yards area, so it is convenient even if the neighborhood itself lacks charm.

Right by the national mall, the monuments, Pentagon City mall, the Pentagon, and DCA. The location is great for someone who wants Arlington space, but DC proximity. You're also an exit away from the airport, which I found extremely useful.

I have really enjoyed my experience in Crystal City. My apartment is within walking distance of two wonderful strips of restaurants, a few lovely parks and about 20 minute walk to Pentagon city. I have a 15 minute walk to the blue line Crystal City station and can walk to Reagan airport safely within about 15-20 minutes. Great access to Mt Vernon bike trail and easy highway access while driving. Neighborhood directly around building is mostly hotels and office buildings. Walking distance to a Harris Teeter and Amazon grocery.

Crystal City is a nice neighborhood. It’s bustling during the week because a lot of people work here, but it’s not very residential so pretty quiet on the weekends. A lot of restaurants within walking distance and several grocery stores as well. The bar scene is almost nonexistent, but otherwise a really nice place to live if you don’t need to be around the DC social scene every night.

The neighborhood is very walkable and has very accessible public transportation. It's not somewhere you typically would go out at night since nightlife is nonexistent, but Amazon just moved in and there is semblance of that changing. It's great if you are active (many gyms, parks, and Mt. Vernon Trail Access), enjoy restaurants like Chick Fil A (one right outside my building), and want to be close to everything.

It is close to almost everything. Metro? Check. Mall? Check. Grocery store? Check. Place to eat and drink? you betcha. I feel safe walking around at night. The only draw back is that there is a fire station close by and you get to hear the wailing of the sirens. You get use to them though.
