Great Value for Money

2400 Chestnut is a wonderful building with very responsive management, reasonable rent for which you get quite a few amenities, and a convenient location close to both the hospital and Center City.

Not many frills, but for the things you need, it does well

2400 Chestnut isn’t going to make you feel that you’re living it up, but it’s got sturdy amenities (and in the off-chance something goes wrong, the management/repair people will be super on top of it), no pests (haven’t seen an actual insect in the apartment, ever), and good security. Other perks include the small gym downstairs, shuttle (can get you to school and back), and the nice doormen (who also handle mail). For proximity to center city, every other apartment building in the area will be significantly more expensive (i.e. 2116 Chestnut, Riverloft) - with the exception of Riverwest (which is much more run-down than 2400 Chestnut).

Definitely recommend

Very good place. A lot of amenities and great things in the area (e.g. 24 hour rite aid). Close to law school. Negative is that it's loud sometimes.

Overall solid apt

Apt definitely does the job. It's not overly nice or filled with amenities but I can't complain. There's a gym, free cable, and amazing shuttle in the morning (which turns into a mini school bus for Penn grad students).

Great Value and Location

Pros:
- Very convenient location (e.g., near Amtrak, near 2401 Walnut, near Trader Joe's, near 2116 Chestnut, 15 min walk to campus)
- Free cable, free 24/7 gym
- Free shuttle to Penn campus every morning
- Friendly management, doormen

Cons:
- Not much of a community with other Wharton/Penn students here, unlike other buildings
- No lounge
- Carpeted apartments are less "nice" than hardwood ones in other buildings

Very Happy with 2400 Chestnut!

I wonder why more Wharton students don't live in 2400 Chestnut. The location is perfect--right across behind 2401 Walnut where lots of Wharton events and group meetings take place and about 20 minutes walk to Wharton. The rent is very reasonable and the rooms are very large. There is a 24-hour concierge, free gym and a free shuttle to campus on weekdays. Management is also fairly responsive and the folks that work in the building are super nice. My only complaint is that there isn't a lounge or large kitchen to host social events. Overall, I have not regretted choosing 2400 Chestnut one bit!

Satisfied Tenant

I've lived here for 3.5 years, and I am content with the living space.

The biggest draw back is the dated interior of the unit, though the building is currently renovating studios and 1 bedrooms (which are BEAUTIFUL). Also, there aren't great common spaces, so the building as a whole is not very social.

Otherwise, I love the building. I like the ease of an apartment building for mail, as compared to a brownstone. The concierges are all quite nice and management is super responsive. Maintenance issues are often addressed same day if the issue is reported in the morning. There is a free shuttle to and from campus on weekdays (SO CLUTCH FOR WINTER). Building comes with gym access. There is parking available for an extra fee, which is much cheaper than any other lots in the city outside of residential permits for street parking. There's laundry on each floor which I never have issues with. And the rent for the 2 bed 2 baths is a steal in my opinion. Other rooms are also well priced compared to other buildings in the city, especially the renovated units.

Overall, I would recommend the building.

Fitler Square Reviews

The location is unbeatable with close proximity to more action in Rittenhouse, the Schuylkill for running, and a short commute to school/the hospital. Trader Joe's is ~10 minute walk from my house, but there are also a few other smaller grocery stores nearby. It's a very family friendly area with folks of all different ages and tons of dogs.
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
This spot is perfect -- closer to campus, near the train station, huge spaces, kind and helpful staff, cool-looking building, new gym, beautiful park nearby, and overall easy and awesome loft-style living experience. I think people will pressure to have to live on Rittenhouse because that's what everyone immediately says to do, but in reality you can live near Rittenhouse (Locust on the Park is just a 5 minute walk to the square) and not miss out on anything. Fitler Square is beautiful, quiet, and still a perfect location.
Pros: close to school as well as all the fun stuff downtown (Schuylkill River Trail, restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shopping, you name it!); very safe even walking alone late at night; lots of other students here
Cons: Trader Joe's is the only real grocery store here and may have limited selection for those looking for a supermarket; not as quiet or "neighborhood-y" as other areas, as it is in the heart of downtown; there is a freight train that runs along the river that can be loud, though I got used to it quickly
