Convenient location with good building management

I live in a newly renovated apartment with a river view (it's beautiful!). The building is old, but can't complain - everything functions just fine and my apartment itself feels and looks new. The building management is very responsive, they repair things quickly and the staff at front desk are friendly and help take and organize your packages. There's free laundry too (although shared on the floor with other tenants). I walk to and from school, it's a good brisk walk for me. I love living in Center City too and being walking distance away from lots of things in the city itself.

Most convenient apartment complex

It might not be the most elegant or upscale apartment complex, but is definitely the most convenient apartment in terms of distance to school and center city, free shuttle bus service, friendly management staff, etc

Nice building with great view

2400 Chestnut is an old building that is slowly upgrading its units. I live in a renovated unit that faces the river (the view is amazing).
I love this building, the rent is cheap and has a great location, close to campus and a free shuttle. Also, the staff is super friendly and helpful.

Since my unit is new I haven't experience any maintenance problem. The elevator is surprisingly fast compare to newer buildings in Center City. The gym is small and a little old but is enough to get a basic work out session.

Closest to school in Rittenhouse area, has a free shuttle in the morning to school, spacious units with affordable rent compared to the area. Good management.

I'm a fan

I have very positive feelings about this place. The best part is the shuttle in the morning. It drops you off within 45 seconds of the law school. In the winter I don't wear my coat in the van and often don't bother putting it on between the van drop-off and the law school.

The facilities aren't flashy, but are more than sufficient...they spent on the lobby and are renovating apartments gradually, but I'm not in one of the renovated ones. Still definitely meets my needs.

The maintenance staff is super responsive and requests are attended to, in my experience, within 48 hrs.

Location is fantastic!! It's right between University City and Center City, which means that you are proximate to school activities at Penn and also proximate to social activities downtown. You're 5 blocks from target, 3 blocks from Trader Joe's, dry cleaner in the basement, 1 block from Rite Aid, and 3 blocks from a liquor store. There are also a number of bars and restaurants within 5-10 minute walk!!

Security is pretty solid. There's a fob for the elevators; desk guys in the lobby 24/7 who recognize most residents, call you if you have a visitor, and let them up for you. Very convenient. Similar protocol if you order food...hold delivery at the desk and call you for pick-up.

The gym is fine, but if you have high standards/needs, then it may underwhelm.

I'm on the 2nd floor, which means a quick elevator ride, but my friends on the 32nd and 33rd floor, who spend longer in the elevator, have the most gorgeous views in the mornings and evenings!

That's all I can think of.

Solid option for any Penn grad student

This is a fantastic building with tons of space, a decent workout room, a dry cleaner on the bottom floor, a 24/7 front desk that receives packages, and a frequently running shuttle to campus. It's safe and easy to walk to from just about anywhere in Center City or University City. The downside is the price, but I got a discount on an overly large unit for me since it was the only one on its floor that hadn't been refurbished in the past 2 years. This building always has a long list of people looking to fill apartments, and a huge percentage of the tenants are Penn grad/med/law students and early professionals.

amazing staff!

Great building staff. You share laundry with your floor. They’re updating the apartments and I’m in one of the renovated ones. Heat is electric and you’re responsible for your electricity ($50 in the summer and $120 for the coldest month). Parking in the attached garage is $130/ month. They allow cats ($500 pet deposit). Security deposit is an entire month’s worth of rent. They’re flexible with your move out date if you need to extend for the bar exam etc. Gym is a little old looking but it works well.

Fitler Square Reviews

The location is unbeatable with close proximity to more action in Rittenhouse, the Schuylkill for running, and a short commute to school/the hospital. Trader Joe's is ~10 minute walk from my house, but there are also a few other smaller grocery stores nearby. It's a very family friendly area with folks of all different ages and tons of dogs.
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
This spot is perfect -- closer to campus, near the train station, huge spaces, kind and helpful staff, cool-looking building, new gym, beautiful park nearby, and overall easy and awesome loft-style living experience. I think people will pressure to have to live on Rittenhouse because that's what everyone immediately says to do, but in reality you can live near Rittenhouse (Locust on the Park is just a 5 minute walk to the square) and not miss out on anything. Fitler Square is beautiful, quiet, and still a perfect location.
Pros: close to school as well as all the fun stuff downtown (Schuylkill River Trail, restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shopping, you name it!); very safe even walking alone late at night; lots of other students here
Cons: Trader Joe's is the only real grocery store here and may have limited selection for those looking for a supermarket; not as quiet or "neighborhood-y" as other areas, as it is in the heart of downtown; there is a freight train that runs along the river that can be loud, though I got used to it quickly
