Quiet, adequate, nothing special

Things break relatively frequently (elevators, HVAC, garbage disposal, random brackets), but maintenance is responsive. The constant renovations are annoying but otherwise apartments are quiet. I rarely hear other residents.

They have an extremely weird and possibly illegal policy that three people cannot live in a two bedroom apartment unless two of them are related or married. This does not appear to apply to a one bedroom or studio so it makes no sense.

West facing unit on high floor. Completely remodeled this past summer. Door men could not be nicer. Perfectly convenient to UPenn and Rittenhouse areas

Great Building - Friendly Staff

Awesome apartment...lots of space amazing views a little on the older side but entire building is being renovated starting with the 1 bedroom apartments. Maintenance service is incredibly prompt they show up in very few minutes. Free gym and shuttle bus to University City. You can’t go wrong with this building. Also good value for your money!

Spacious and great doorman/staff

Very close to campus, no dogs allowed, our view is probably the best in Philadelphia. Our place isn't updated but they're in the process of updating them all

Practical + Functional

If I had to describe 2400 Chestnut in one word, it would be "practical". The building is fairly close to the law school (12-minute walking distance) and for the price, it is a solid option. The apartment staff are always very nice and you won't have to worry about losing your package. The shuttles can be a plus but the times are not consistent. There definitely are downsides: units are quite old and are not modern-looking by any means. The windows are huge so you get a good view of the city but can make your apartment quite cold during the winter.

2400 Chestnut is certainly not a luxury apartment but the perks of living close to school and having a doorman with a moderate rent make the place worthwhile, at least during your first year in Philly.

2400 Chestnut

I have really enjoyed living here. It is the perfect location between Center City and University City. It has great parking rates, which is a large part of why we chose to live here. I have no complaints about the building. It is a great value as well. There are a lot of graduate students and young professionals in the building. I would recommend it!

Gets the job done

2400 is a good apartment at a good cost. The units are a little outdated but clean and functional. You get a lot of space and closet space for how much you pay, and management is very good and attentive. The gym isn't bad (8-9 cardio machines, bench, free weights, and 4-5 weight machines. Free shuttle to campus is great for cold or rainy days, but otherwise the walk isn't bad at all. Close to 30th st station, very close to 2401. Nice views as well.

Fine for the price given the location

Great location, easy to walk to campus. Maintenance is great and fixes most things on the day you request something. Building isn't the nicest or the newest but is appropriately priced. Extremely quiet--really no street noise or noise inside the apartment.

The location is unbeatable with close proximity to more action in Rittenhouse, the Schuylkill for running, and a short commute to school/the hospital. Trader Joe's is ~10 minute walk from my house, but there are also a few other smaller grocery stores nearby. It's a very family friendly area with folks of all different ages and tons of dogs.
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
This spot is perfect -- closer to campus, near the train station, huge spaces, kind and helpful staff, cool-looking building, new gym, beautiful park nearby, and overall easy and awesome loft-style living experience. I think people will pressure to have to live on Rittenhouse because that's what everyone immediately says to do, but in reality you can live near Rittenhouse (Locust on the Park is just a 5 minute walk to the square) and not miss out on anything. Fitler Square is beautiful, quiet, and still a perfect location.
Pros: close to school as well as all the fun stuff downtown (Schuylkill River Trail, restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shopping, you name it!); very safe even walking alone late at night; lots of other students here
Cons: Trader Joe's is the only real grocery store here and may have limited selection for those looking for a supermarket; not as quiet or "neighborhood-y" as other areas, as it is in the heart of downtown; there is a freight train that runs along the river that can be loud, though I got used to it quickly
