Great apartment!

They are redoing the apartments but if you are looking for a cheap comfortable place this is great. There are temperature control issues but the refurnishing is going to fix those problems.

Value for money

This building offers great value for money.
1. Location - close to 2401, closer to campus, complimentary campus shuttle on weekday mornings
2. Gym in the basement, one "study" room on the first floor

Negatives:
1. Different units are in different stages of renovation - some units have been renovated, others haven't. The ones that haven't been renovated have old, grotty carpets. The bathrooms are tiny.
2. This is generally an older building, with older appliances, and older fittings. The apartments are not as "nice" as the newer buildings in Center City (2116 Chestnut, 1919 Market).
3. The gym is tiny, and only has a few machines.
4. No in-unit laundry (Each floor has a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers). But the laundry machines are free to use, and I have never had to wait to find a free machine.

Great until recently

Really liked the apartment the first year. Management is generally responsive and the staff are very nice. The location is good as it's part way between school and Rittenhouse square and very close to the highway. Parking is also relatively cheap at $130 per month. On the down side, there are limited food options close by. Also, this past year, they have been renovating the apartment next door, which means loud drilling sounds on weekday mornings. However, this should hopefully not be an issue in the future.

Great for Penn Grads

Best value in Center City. We get a lot of space for what we pay. While there aren't a ton of amenities that come with it, there is a solid gym and a shuttle to campus, and management is fantastic.

Easy and great for students

Lots of medical students and residents in this building. There is morning shuttle to UPenn's campus that runs every 20 minutes. There's also a 24 hour fitness room, doorman. The windows were renovated a couple years ago and over all in pretty good condition. Great value for this really easy to live in building.

Great apartment

Fantastic location: halfway between Penn Med and downtown. Shuttle between the apartment building and the Penn campus is a great amenity. Apartments are solid. Bathroom and Kitchen are fine. Bedrooms are good. Only major complaint is that the rooms do not hold heat well in the winter, leading to higher electric bills and the need for supplemental heating (e.g. space heater).

Value and Convenience

Super convenient location at a reasonable price has led this to become the Penn med "dorm". Nice, clean apartment building although it's a bit old, but renovations are ongoing every year. The morning and evening shuttle is clutch, especially in the winter time. There is an Indigo bike rack next to the building and it's 20 min walk max door to door, so all transportation options are great. Doorman for security and packages is very convenient as well. Definitely would recommend living here, especially if not from Philly area and don't have time to explore the rest of the city for an extended period of time.

Fitler Square Reviews

The location is unbeatable with close proximity to more action in Rittenhouse, the Schuylkill for running, and a short commute to school/the hospital. Trader Joe's is ~10 minute walk from my house, but there are also a few other smaller grocery stores nearby. It's a very family friendly area with folks of all different ages and tons of dogs.
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
This spot is perfect -- closer to campus, near the train station, huge spaces, kind and helpful staff, cool-looking building, new gym, beautiful park nearby, and overall easy and awesome loft-style living experience. I think people will pressure to have to live on Rittenhouse because that's what everyone immediately says to do, but in reality you can live near Rittenhouse (Locust on the Park is just a 5 minute walk to the square) and not miss out on anything. Fitler Square is beautiful, quiet, and still a perfect location.
Pros: close to school as well as all the fun stuff downtown (Schuylkill River Trail, restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shopping, you name it!); very safe even walking alone late at night; lots of other students here
Cons: Trader Joe's is the only real grocery store here and may have limited selection for those looking for a supermarket; not as quiet or "neighborhood-y" as other areas, as it is in the heart of downtown; there is a freight train that runs along the river that can be loud, though I got used to it quickly
