Good management, but older building

Management is very responsive and people at the front desk are very nice. However the building is rather old, as a consequence it is does not insulate heat very well. The cabinets should be replaced.

Love 2400 Chestnut

This place is the best. The management/maintenance are responsive. There are great free laundry rooms on each floor. Doormen are fantastic and friendly (know your name). Facebook community is helpful. FREE van Shuttle to Campus in the mornings. Lots of Penn Med/Law/Wharton students here.

Hassle free with a great location

Pros:
1) 2400 Chestnut is located midway between the school and Rittenhouse square, and is right next to the river for those who are interested in going for long runs along the river trail.
2) Fantastic management that is always supportive and reasonably responsive to requests. 3) The doormen are friendly and are a big help in attending to your requests as well.

Cons:
This is not a high ceiling building which some of the brownstone or other fancier apartment buildings can offer.

2400 Chestnut - Centre City, but still close...

2400 Chestnut is a great apartment building that has 33 floors and about 12 apartments on each floor. It is located in Centre City but is very close to University City. The building offers great value and even has a free university shuttle service that is very helpful in the winter. There are about 30-40 Wharton students staying in the building right now. There are two drawbacks - washer/dryers are on every floor so need to shared, and there is no official "lounge" area in the building. It is right by the river and offers spectacular views! Would I move elsewhere after 1st yr? No.

Great building

Very nice, has everything you'd want. Spacious. Decent gym, free laundry. The shuttle to Penn's campus on weekday mornings is extremely convenient, especially in the winter/rain. They just renovated all of the windows in the building, which looks great and is more energy efficient. It's mostly Penn grad students--med, nursing, law, dental. Really the only knock on it is that the apartments lack character. They're pretty cookie-cutter. If that doesn't bother you, would highly recommend.

Responsive, friendly, and accommodating management team

Building shuttle to and from school, gym with extended hours, free rental for garden patio, conference room, free laundry, and inexpensive parking and rent add up to a great deal. Because this building is 5 minutes further away from Rittenhouse than other buildings, the monthly rent is hundreds of dollars cheaper. However, it's literally right by 2401 Walnut and Schuylkill river park. It's also closer to campus, Penn park, etc. than most other Wharton-heavy buildings, save for RiverLoft. Usually, more than 40-50 Wharton students live here each year, so frequent dinner parties are a great way to meet your neighbors.

2400 Chestnut is a great building.

Lots of Penn grad students and residents live here, in addition to young families and some elderly people. The location is convenient to both Penn and Center city. It has a shuttle to Penn in the mornings that's convenient especially in cold weather, a nice gym with a television, and a lot of quickly responsive repairmen. There is are 24 hour doormen, who are all generally nice, and good package/mail delivery, etc. It's a reasonably quiet building. The apartments themselves are on the older end, but very nice and clean and the appliances work fine. The most important thing to note, however, is that electricity for heating and cooling (especially in the cold winter months and hot summer months) costs a LOT. Expect to budget about $100-$200 for your electricity bill during the coldest and hottest months of the year. The windows are not well insulated, and the heaters/air conditioners are right next to the windows. Other than that, it's been a great experience living here.

2400 Chestnut is a very good choice. Overall, it is well worth the money.

The apartments are very spacious but a bit old. The gym is a bit old-fashioned and depressive. Common areas are always clean. The airconditioning system is old and thus very energy-consuming. There is carpet everywhere inside the apartment- good for the cold weather, bad for hygiene Very friendly and helpful personnel. The location is its best feature - close to both University and Center City.

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
