Excellent value, convenient location - the rest depends on your landlord and unit

I love my apartment. Units in Riverwest are condos, and a mix of building- and landlord-owned - mine is landlord-owned, was recently remodeled, rent includes all amenities except Internet, and from the seventeenth floor has a fantastic north-facing view of the Schuylkill. I understand units nearer the ground floor have more street noise and less-amazing views. The building is safe and very quiet, and the front desk team is friendly and helpful. I'm otherwise entirely indifferent to the building - amenities include meeting spaces in the lobby that are great for group work, a gym (stationary bikes, treadmills, an elliptical, limited range of free weights), and laundry facilities, but common areas have not been remodeled in years and have an old, run-down feel. The building also drives a lot of energy waste - the heating system is centrally controlled, and most units are overheated during the winter, with no recourse except to open the windows. If you're considering Riverwest, in addition to the regular photos visit process, you should be aware of two implications of its being part landlord-owned. First, you should ask the previous tenant or landlord about neighbors - if your neighbors own their units and prove difficult to live near, the building is not empowered to evict them or impose any behavior modification measures. Second, you should look for inventory on Craigslist, as many owners do not advertise through the building's management.

Great value for the price.

Great value for the price. Convinient location to Rittenhouse, school, 2401 space, trolley, etc. Friendly doorman staff. Sublet is fine during the summer. Could be a bit noisy. The building itself isn't anything fancy. Gym included, but very basic.

Affordable and great location

The location is great as the building is close to the buses that take you to school. The buidling is also close to most popular hangouts for Wharton students. It is close to Trader Joes as well as 2401. A lot of Wharton students live here and in the buildings close by. The quality of the building is ok. The heating system is old and very noisy. Walls are thin and neighbours can hear each other sometimes. The gym is decent. I don't have any major complaints with the building other than the noisy heating system. I am was looking for an affordable place with a good location and I am satisfied

RiverWest - convenient, safe, and quiet.

This area is very convenient - it's close to Trader Joe's, Rittenhouse Square, and is near the route for PennBus East. The residence has a nice view of the city, and there have been little to no problems with insects or rodents. The apartments are spacious, and though the heating is centralized, the building is kept at a good temperature throughout the year. The gym downstairs is perhaps not as well maintained as a professional gym, but it's kept cool and relatively clean (though there could probably be more sprays and towels around the gym to encourage people to wipe off the equipment after use), and it's seldom packed. The Schuykill river trail is also nearby, as are other gyms/workout areas. The people manning the front desk are friendly, though not necessarily very responsive to problems with the laundry area (some machines force you to swipe the laundry card twice, others keep running perpetually, and there are also machines that run initially, but stop in the middle of the cycle).

Good location and value but don't expect anything luxurious.

Pros: - Excellent location (transportation, close to TJ, Trolley, Rittenhouse sq.) - Good value, relatively cheaper than other buildings - Friendly staffs (doorman, management) Cons: - Elevator is under replacement construction so it's slow - Some construction noise from the building across the street - Heating is central system. It's often too hot in the winter time.

Older building, but good location.

Washerdryer in basement. Decent-sized gym. Heating units (centrally controlled) can emit a loud clanking in the night.

Great value for money. Utilities are also included. Conveniently located between Huntsman and Rittenhouse Nothing fancy - old building with slow elevator, though they are working on upgrading it

Solid apartment for the price

the apartment is fine. it is a doorman building with study lounge. a lot of wharton students live there which is nice. it's very close to the 2401 building which is a plus. the apartment units can get hot due to a universal heating system. i recommend keeping ACwindows open. if you don't mind that the value isn't bad for the time you are actually there over 8 mo's. I really enjoyed being close to rittenhouse sq and in a building w other students! i have no major complaints about RW except for heat. when i looked it was one of the lowest priced studios w doorman and close proximity to center city. i was happy to spend the money i saved on rent on travel ;)

Fitler Square Reviews

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
