Good value

I really like my apartment given what I pay for it. Each experience in Riverwest is fairly unique however because most people rent from individual landlords who own that condo unit. My studio was renovated right before I moved in so I haven't had any pest issues. Others have. The layout is also pretty decent for a studio and has a lot of storage space.

Good value for money

Riverwest apartments vary in quality based on the owner. My apartment was well maintained. The building is not great but its great value for money.

Great location and value but you get what you pay for

Riverwest has a great location and it's probably the most affordable option in Center City. However, keep in mind that you get what you pay for. We've had horrible false fire alarms go off once a month since I moved here!

Great value

Pros: best value for building with doorman, great location (very near bus stop, trolley stop and Trader Joe's), spacious

Cons: old building, heat is centralized so it's hard to control, fire alarm has a tendency to go off unnecessarily

Love my studio

Not fancy or anything but very comfortable and solved for exactly my needs. Each unit in this building can be very different so take note of your particular one.

Separately, there were an absurd number of fire alarms throughout the year that were very annoying.

Value for money

Compared with the quality of apartments and location, it gives the best value for money.

Key issues:
1. In winters, heater is too warm (hot)
2. Cockroaches

Best bang for your buck

Great building. All utilities and amenities are included in the rent. The best part is the free cable with HBO offered by the building. Few problems with fire alarms and drills, but overall I have no regrets!

Management is slow…

Maintenance issues can take weeks (if not months) to resolve. Also, walls can be a bit "thin" at times. Amenities, specifically the gym, are good. Location is great.

Decent Value

Great place for the value. Cheapest 1 bedroom in center city within a condo building. No utilities which really helps during the winter months. Heat is a bit excessive when it's on and it's not controlled by the building.

Fitler Square Reviews

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
