Resident of 2 years review: The biggest initial view of University East is that the building is clearly old, with retro mailboxes and a smaller-than-expected (though good enough moving up plenty of disassembled furniture) elevator. The floor creaks in places, the radiators can be tempermental, the walls, while repainted to accommodate residents, show the buildings previous history as an office building, and early on I had recurrent pest issues (left over holes in the walls, though maintenance helpfully corrected this when asked). Also, especially in summer when the motorcyclists decide to show off but during late night door dash pick ups, Euclid traffic can be loud.

However, despite all that I've mentioned, after the initial troubles the apartment has been a good experience overall. Lots of space for one person, never had any plumbing, toilet, stove, or refrigerator issues. For context, I never looked too closely at the prospect of moving, so there are clearly some other factors that may make someone want to look more at Euclid3 or Uptown (just down the street).

If you want a more dorm-like experience or expect shared amenities, this is not a good choice. Aside from the mail room, there's just the 2nd floor laundry room (which has 3 washers, 3 dryers and really had ought to be upgraded; takes quarters for sure and supposedly has an app).

Otherwise, I think its a good starter apartment option (functional, a bit drab, only a few headaches). If I could rebuild the building, I'd make the elevator bigger, add staircases on either side of the hall, bigger (or more plentiful) laundry room, maybe a main lobby that's not so visible from both sides of the entry way, less carpet in units, and a less noisy floor. Also, I might hire special carpet cleaners for when people take their dogs out for a walk in the rain (no too often but jeez).

Also, expect to occasional elevator maintenance and to have like once-a-year per-unit maintenance to mitigate lead risk (minor from the resident side, just surprising the first time to have to move everything for maintenance).

Until now my experience has been good solely because of the close distance to the school. For those who don't own a car, this is a very good option because it's very near to the college. However, there are some issues with the heater and I don't know how and whether I would be able to adjust in the cold months to come since I've never experienced this harsh weather

The building is fairly newly renovated (2004) and the apartment is nice enough. My apartment is a 500 sq ft (I think) carpeted studio but it's sectioned off so it's basically a 1-bedroom, just without a bedroom door. The closet is huge and all utilities except electric are covered, which is great in the winter when it's freezing cold but I can turn up the heat however high I want and not worry about paying for it. Every apartment in my building comes with a window AC unit so I didn't have to buy one. On the downside, I do still have to pay for laundry (typical coin-operated machines) and I don't know if there are parking spots next to the building. My apartment is a little expensive for Cleveland but still cheaper than the other cities I've lived in and it's less than a 10 min walk from class, Little Italy, Uptown, and the RTA.

University East is one of the smaller apartment buildings in the area. Management is very reasonable and responsive to emails. While not being as new or nice as the Uptown Apartments, University East is certainly adequate for a law student. The location at the corner of Euclid and Mayfield has you within walking distance of numerous restaurants and bars, the museums, Severance Hall, the law and med school, KSL, the Tink, and Little Italy. The building is generally quiet and gets a good amount of mid-day sun. Overall, it's a very good option.

I lived in the same apartment in the University East building for 3 years. It is not the cheapest option (although still cheaper than Uptown) but the commute to the law school can't be beat. The apartments themselves are fine - plenty of natural light, and relatively well-maintained.

It is a VERY SAFE building, something that was a big concern for me. There's always plenty of activity from the restaurants at this intersection, which makes me feel safer walking around here late at night. It's incredibly convenient to school, and there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and other places to check out right here. It's also right on the Health Line, which is handy for getting downtown for work.

There's an elevator, which is old but nice to have. It's annoying to have to part across the street, and sometimes the lot fills up during the day with people coming into the area for CWRU or events, but it's doable. It can be a little noisy sometimes because of the ambulances coming and going from the hospital next door, but I don't even hear it anymore. Overall, it's been a good place to live!

I really love this location. I am right in the middle of everything, and I couldn't be any closer to campus. The apartment managers are super sweet and helpful. The only downside is the noise from being on a busy street.
The parking garage for your car is across the street. And the elevator is tiny and very, very old. But other than that, it's really great.

It's not the newest building, but it's a five-minute walk from the law school, and right on the Health Line. Easy access to CWRU gym facilities, Uptown restaurants and shops, and the Red Line and multiple bus routes. Not every apartment will have a lot of natural light, and being right next to University Hospital and the Courtyard Marriott hotel means that it's not the quietest location, but being able to walk back and forth to the law school so easily makes it worth it!
