Midtown

Very Popular Spot for Young Professionals
Midtown is a jam-packed area that hosts a lot young professionals looking to enjoy the city's best nightlife options. You can find the city's unofficial restaurant row here that includes popular spots like Piola, Brenna's of Houston, and Charivari. Don't let the young crowd and popular nightlife spots fool you however - it's still one of Houston's most desirable neighborhoods no matter what age you are as it offers something for everyone.

Renters here thrive on living in a vibrant, exciting neighborhood and you can really feel the energy when you walk the streets. It provides easy access to downtown and most of Houston freeways are within a five minute drive so commuting shouldn't be an issue.

Midtown — 8.6/10 Rating (based on 20 neighborhood reviews)
As close to the school in a safe neighborhood (I am a single woman so "safe" to me may be different than it is for you). When I think safe, I want 1) to be able to walk alone and 1) in a well-lit area and 2) there not be crime I have heard of occurring right around our complex. Lots of good bars and restaurants within walking distance as well. There are always people walking around, WHICH I LIKE. I would prefer than v. it being empty if I ever need to walk my dog later at night. Less than 15 minutes to drive to school - no highway needed.

On the edge of midtown so great access to restaurants and main streets without the noise of the bars in the center of midtown. Also brand new Whole Foods across the street. The people who use street parking, though, make getting out onto the big street a little annoying.

Well located in Houston but noisy and not as safe as I would want. There are a lot of homeless around the area. Midtown park has a good dog park and it is a nice park. Several gyms, restaurants, and bar options around.

They don't call it Midtown for nothing! It is super close to everything you would want to do in Houston, and my commute to school takes me 10-15 minutes normally, 20 on a busy day. There are some not-nice parts of the neighborhood, and it is clear that homelessness is a problem; that being said, it is obvious what streets you should avoid, and I do generally feel safe outside in my neighborhood. The vibe is catered to a younger demographic, so there are tons of restaurants and bars. But because of that, it is noisy, and that is unavoidable.

I love my neighborhood. Midtown is known for being hit or miss and there can be issues with the homeless. The advantages definitely outweigh any cons though.

Being in Midtown was really great before Covid. I would definitely recommend living in Midtown if classes are in person since you are only a 5 min drive to campus and the bars are close by, making it a little easier to have a social life in law school. However, living in Midtown mid-pandemic is very different and the conveniences of being close to school are no longer relevant. I do like that it is a young neighborhood where most people are young professionals.

The area is really cleaning up. You are right down the street from HEB, Whole Foods, and Randalls. There are so many social spots in this area. This is the cheapest safest apartment in the area right now.

I recommend living in midtown. It is 10 minutes from the university and relatively safe for the inner city. There are tons of great restaurants and bars within walking distance. If you can hold off moving in until the winter, rent is significantly less so my rent is would be more like 1400-1600 if I moved in the summer months. It is a newer building so one can definitely find cheaper prices at other apartments nearby.
