Central location where the heart of the action is at

Station 9 is really central for the business school students. If you are looking to be close to the social scene Station 9 is a great option for incoming business school students.

Something to consider is noise levels. If you are not hoping to be in the center of the action, you may be annoyed by the constant late nights of loud music/ pool parties. Another negative is being forced to pay for a trash service that is often inconsistent. Some nights it gets picked up earlier than listed and if you put it out when you are supposed to it won't be taken.

The gym is the best of the ninth street options. All times we have put in a request to have something fixed, someone has come up within an hour and fixed the issue.

A great apartment with nearly everything you need within walking distance

Station Nine ("S9") is overpriced for the area, but it's worth it to be in the Ninth Street area if you are moderately or highly social. The management team is very responsive, the location is incredible, the gym is awesome, and the apartment is nicer than what I expected.

S9 Great for School/Social Life Balance

If you live by the meditation gardens, you get the best of both worlds - a quiet apartment to study/work/interview in (+ a beautiful view), while still being steps away from other MBAs' apartments, the S9 social life and the active pool area in summer.

Worst Complex I've Ever Lived At

The hallways are dirty and management is impersonal. They will nickel and dime you for every last cent and be slow to respond to maintenance requests.

I walked by the leasing office with a friend and her pet. Within 24 hours I received a request telling me I owed the complex a pet deposit despite not having a pet.

Even moving in was a hassle. I arrived into town around midnight the day my lease started and asked the staff if I could drop my things off into the living room because the hotel I was staying at didn't have private parking. The staff then proceeded to give me a hard time about my moving in even though it was my lease start date and tried to get me to pay an additional day's rent. When I didn't agree to pay an additional day's rent they made a huge deal about it and treated me as if they were doing me this giant favor by letting me move in at midnight on my lease start date.

With regards to my room the walls are very thin. I live on the first floor and my neighbors above me sound like they're stomping and make my bedroom door shake every time they walk around their living room. I talked to management about the issue and they told me that they weren't going to do anything about it and I just had to deal with it.

I do not recommend living here, they advertise themselves as a luxury property but that couldn't be further from the truth. Between the dirty hallways and the staffs attitude I would recommend looking elsewhere. You'll end up paying less money for a nicer place and have a much better experience.

Excellent Apartment Complex

It’s extremely close to ninth street and Harris teeter which makes it extremely convenient! It’s also one of the safest neighbourhoods in Durham!

9/10 experience, would recommend

Great place off campus! No carpets which is a little strange to me and always something going on at the pool which can be annoying, but overall a great experience only a 7 minute drive from school! If I had to do it all over again I’d definitely choose to live here again!

Station 9

I love living in Station 9. It has a secure parking garage in the middle of the complex that makes my walk from my car to my third floor apartment about 30 seconds. The apartments are pretty spacious and come with all the amenities, like washer/dryer in unit, pool access, a grill, a full gym, and a bunch of study rooms with free coffee. The maintenance staff and leasing office are both very helpful. It is a great location about 5-10 minute drive from campus. The only down side is no other law students really live here, it is mostly Fuqua students or undergrads.

Good location but the interior is old

S9 is the party house, which is good and bad depending on what you want. The interior is pretty old and not as nice as B9 or 810.

Getting around Ninth Street

Ninth Street Reviews

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
