Good for students

So far, I've enjoyed my experience at Station Nine. That said, it is not without its faults. Many of the units, including my own, have either no cell service or horrible cell service depending on who your provider is (I have Verizon). Additionally, the wifi can be unreliable, and people often end up needing to buy a router or some other wifi unit to keep the wifi stable. Overall though, I recommend it for any students going to school in the area.

Fine for 2 years

I like living in Station Nine for the location. Most of my friends live in the apartment (I have a friend across the hall and almost next door) and it is nice to go to the pool and gym and see people that I know. The apartment is rather large - over 800 sq ft for a one-bedroom one-bathroom apartment. That said, the hallways are outdoors and that can drive the cost of heating/cooling up. Also, the walls are fairly thin so you can hear your neighbors and people in the halls. The leasing agents are great and maintenance responds quickly to any concerns. Overall, it is fine for 2 years, particularly if you are single or a couple with no kids.

Good Experience

Overall good place to live, close to 9th street and in the area most Fuqua students live in. Parking included for those with cars and close to Duke shuttle for those who don't drive.

Great Experience

I love living at Station Nine. I think the apartments are spacious and nice and the amenities are good as well (gym/pool). The location is the primary draw in my opinion. You are so close to 9th Street and majority of the MBA program lives in this area. There are even nicer and more newly renovated apartment complexes that have incredible facilities, and that is the only reason I am not ranking S9 as high as possible.

Overpriced

Management team is very good and efficient, but there are a few drawbacks: 1. internet is petty bad during peak time; 2. generally, it is overpriced.

Excellent Units and Management

Station 9 is a great apartment complex. The management staff are extremely easy to work with and go out of their way to make sure their residents are happy. The maintenance staff are very responsive. The units are newly renovated, and are generously sized. The building feels very secure. The amenities include a gym, pool, grill area, dog run, and free covered parking. A car or a bike is recommended to get to Fuqua, but it is possible to live here without a car if you are able to carpool. Walking distance to the shops and restaurants on 9th St, and right across the street from the grocery store.

Good for throwing parties

Pros:

They are very chill if you throw parties/events

Gym, pool and club house are great

People that work here are very nice

Maintenance responds very fast

Cons:

Apartments are overpriced imo.

You can hear everything your neighbors do.

Apartments “look” good with the renovation, but they are still “cheap apartments”

Overall would recommend if you want to have pregames, people over often. The other apartments in the area are not open to that. If you don’t care about that, the other apartments are way nicer and newer and around the same price.

Ps. Don’t fall for the 2 year lease, get a one year and then you can get another month or two free when you renew through their renewal specials

Also! Avoid first floors. They are concrete throughout, have cracks and they can flood during heavy rain. (Which is why they keep them as concrete, easy to dry)

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
