Right balance of affordable and comfortable
My roommate and I have lived here for all four years of medical school. We have enjoyed it and found it to be a good fit for our needs. It is walking-distance from the medical school and Duke's campus and has nice amenities and convenient parking. We have pretty convenient access to ninth street and downtown with a short drive. There have been security/safety concerns in the past, however in the past 1-2 years the management has taken measures to increase security, including a nightly security patrol. After this, the community has felt significantly safer, but these concerns did exist in the past several years.

Great area to live in
One advantage of Belmont compared with other apartments near the school is it's the biggest community, it even has a lake within the community.

It’s fine
Due to the issues from the last several years the management company has stepped up security and maintenance quality. While there have been no break ins I know of, my roommate found someone looking into his window of his room and called the police. The officer mentioned that the management company has had complaints of this before but didn’t handle it through the police. Overall it’s a decent place but there aren’t any 5 star amenities

Great place to live and cheaper than most
So far, my stay here has been really great: the apartments are very spacious with lot of storage and the AC works really well. Little pest compared to other places. Has a nice pool, free parking right in front of your door, and a reasonable gym. Free filtered water and coffee are available 24/7. Duke and GoDurham bus stop right in front of the gate. Harris Teeter at walking distance. Maintenance is very responsive. Feels safe due to security guard patrolling the premises. Most importantly, it was a substantially cheaper than the apartments around us. Only downsides would be low water pressure (so you can't shower simultaneously in a 2Bath or do laundry at the same time), and kitchen and bathroom feel a bit cheap, and AC in the study spaces of the leasing office turns off at night.
